SAARC member states are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The SAARC Secretariat is located in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The South Asia region is a natural disaster-prone area which receives frequent earthquakes, typhoons, and tidal surges, and seasonal flooding. With a total regional population of 1.5 billion people, establishing an early warning system, as well as an adequate pre- disaster preparedness and post-disaster management system will be a future priority for SAARC.
