THIS WEEK AT HOLY ROSARY Dear Parishioners:

Sunday, 9 May Blessings to you all. I have just returned from two back-to-back Sixth Sunday of Easter retreats. The first was my annual, canonical retreat—a time that each and every priest and religious is obliged to take for Dominican Rite: Fifth Sunday after Easter spiritual and physical renewal. I went to a Benedictine Monday, 10 May monastery, one that I have now been visiting for over 20 years. St. Antoninus, OP It was edifying for me to experience all the liturgical actions of Tuesday, 11 May the Mass and the Divine Office without being in the slightest way responsible for any of it. It’s a real treat for me and one Easter Weekday that brings me great joy. Yet, it always makes me anxious to Dominican Rite: SS. Philip & James return to ministry. Wednesday, 12 May St. Pancras The second retreat was an extraordinary convocation for all the priests in the Archdiocese of Portland. Because it was local Dominican Rite: Vigil of the Ascension (just down in Happy Valley), we Dominicans were able to Thursday, 13 May spend each night in our priory as well as celebrate the early Our Lady of Fatima morning Masses. This particular retreat was less about spiritual Dominican Rite: Ascension of the Lord renewal, and more about fraternity within the presbyterate— something that has been missing in the lives of diocesan priests Dominican Rite Mass – 7:00 PM for years. It was great getting to spend time with other priests Friday, 14 May in the area, including other Dominicans in the Archdiocese. St. Matthias Dominican Rite: Easter Feria I would like to thank Fr. Augustine Hilander, OP, for coming down from our Dominican parish in Seattle just to cover Saturday, 15 May weekday confessions and noon Masses while the rest of us St. Isidore were attending the conference. I will be returning the favor in Dominican Rite: St. Jean Baptiste de la Salle Seattle later this month when they go on their own. This is one Nocturnal Adoration – 7:00 PM of the benefits of belonging to a religious order. We know each other and we can provide assistance to each other, in fraternity Sunday, 16 May and in charity. We offer the fruits obtained to those whom we Ascension of the Lord minister. Dominican Rite: Sixth Sunday after Easter On May 16 many of our children will be making their at the 9:00a Mass. While this is a fantastic witness for all of us, and one that signifies the continuing renewal of FRIARS & STAFF AT HOLY ROSARY our Faith from generation to generation, we do expect a full house under COVID limits. So that we do not have to impose signup limits I would ask that if you aren’t directly related, Priory Office perhaps you can switch to another Mass. This will greatly Very Rev. Peter Do, OP Dean Applegate relieve those to whom the threat of spread is very real (e.g., Prior Director of Music those who have high-risk relatives). Rev. Corwin Low, OP Janine Applegate Parochial Administrator Director of Parish Education Lastly, and not least, we celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, Rev. Gabriel Mosher, OP Mark Fisher May 9th.
