Outreach: Served on the Pennsylvania advisory group and as a member of the Training Team for the USDA Stronger Economies Together (SET) program in Pennsylvania. The instructional team worked with two SET applicant regions to offer the SET educational materials and provide opportunities for the applicants to build plans and strategies to move ahead with achieving their goals. This work occurred in 2010 and 2011. This work was co-sponsored by the NERCRD at Penn State, but the Center was not able to identify faculty to participate on the training team, so I learned about the effort and volunteered to participate on the Training Team. The Training Team substantially modified the SET training materials in response to participant concerns the material was too basic, and made the ‘training’ sessions more interactive to encourage the participants to identify their goals and to develop a plan to begin to achieve their goals.
