In one week from today, it's Halloween!

I will admit, of all the various holidays, demi-holidays, church holidays, bank holidays, random celebration holidays, etc., Halloween might be one of my least favorites.

Don't get me wrong! I love the fall (perhaps even my favorite season), and I love carving pumpkins and putting out Sunday scarecrows. I love dressing up in costume (especially when Worship Times I do a group costume with Bedi). But, I am not a fan of the scary stuff.

8:00 a. m. Rite I I am such a scaredy-cat that I will not watch any horror films 10:00 a.m. Rite II or any thriller films; even some suspense films are too much Coffee & Fellowship for me. I was never into scary stories as a child, and I still after each service. can't read a good murder mystery book-I tried a few years ago and ended up reading chapters one through 5 and then Church School 32, so I knew the ending before I got too scared.

Usually, I can handle Halloween - I focus on the fun, the ● Children religious side of it (after all, it was ages 3-5th grade religious before it was about candy), the 10:00 a.m. pageantry. But this year, it's kind of meet downstairs in classrooms. They getting to me. I'm over the blood and guts, will join their families the zombies and ghouls, the screaming in time for communion. ghosts and cackling witches.

● JR. & SR. High But, despite all of that-the scariness and the "up-to-here"- 9:00 a.m. ness - I'm still planning to be out next week, in our parking Meet in the lot, for Trunk-or-Treat. In fact, I can't wait! Sturtz House

● Adult Formation I've been working on costumes for a few weeks now (with Peace & Justice the ideas 'brewing' several months ago), and while these Adult Forums will clearly be "home-made" costumes, I still can't wait to 9/15-11/24 (no 10/27) show them off! Bedi will be with me, and Sally, too (that's 11:30am -12:15pm in the undercroft Father Jesse's dog). (I'm not telling you what we'll be; you'll have to come and see for yourself!) Nursery (infants and children up to 3 years If you have not signed up to bring a car, email Kim Curtis. old) is available She'd love to add you to our list. Even if you can't be here, downstairs from 9:30am through the we'll gladly take your trunk. Or, if you have extra people at 10am service. home, but no extra car, we'll gladly take more volunteers.

For Church School And in the meantime, may this last week before Halloween information please be NOT too scary for you! contact The Rev. Lisa Erdeljon, Associate Rector for Christian Education.

Remembering the Departed in pictures and by name for All Saints' and All Souls' Days

On Sunday November 3, remember your departed loved ones by bringing a framed photo in the morning to be included during a Celebration of Life reception in the Community Room following both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. All Saints' Day services. Photos may be left following the reception so that they can be relocated to the Nave as we remember the Faithful Departed for All Souls' Day at 6:30 p.m. This special service will include reading the names of deceased loved ones and will be set to the Fauré Requiem, sung by St. Michael's Choir, the St. 's Barrington Choir and featuring guest singers. If you would like to have the name of your loved one included in the bulletin in the evening, be sure to print it in the designated binder located in the narthex (front foyer) no later than October 28.

Three ways to include departed loved ones on November 3

1. Bring a framed photo to be included on the Memorial Quick Links display table at the "Celebration of Life" reception following either morning worship service. On this Sunday, October 27, we will be presenting our children's stewardship campaign items. Please remember to bring back the box of coins. We will be presenting them Our Website with the children's pledge cards during the service.

We have been discussing for the last few weeks how stewardship is "heart" work. I feel really good that the kids have an understanding of the definition of Stewardship. I challenge you to ask any Sunday school child, "What is the stewardship campaign"? I am confident they will be able to Little Angels answer. Preschool It means to manage something or take care of something. In our classrooms, we separated the word Stewardship into two words; steward and ship. Meaning... we are the steward/servant that manages the ship. The ship could be earth, home, school, church, community, our room, just about anything and anyone.

Listen to Sunday When we give as servants, God rewards us and exclaims, Sermons Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant. We hope this will encourage our children to share what they have earned in coins as a principle of responsibility. It is reinforcing what we are grateful for and what God has provided us. It is the way we say "thank you" to God. We used the example of making your bed or surprise clean up at home as a way to be a servant and collect money to give to God in their Follow us on boxes. I will have extra boxes if your child was absent; just Facebook have them bring in their coins.

I hope the weather will hold out for us next Thursday for Trunk or Treat. I am hoping to see some additional names on the sign-up sheet after this Sunday. Or maybe not hoping BUT praying. The Fire Department, Police Department and Davenport Funeral Home will all be here. Vestry Meeting Erin has committed to taking all our photos in a family Summary photo area again. Please consider participating in some September 16, 2019 Click here way even if you cannot attend. Would we be able to use your trunk?
