Impassioned by God, I seek to lead, inspire, and accompany the people of the Diocese of San Diego as apostle, chief priest, and pastor, guiding the Church’s ministry of reconciliation and igniting its potential for growth while faithfully following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his life of fearless love for the world.
Experience
Episcopal Chaplain, United States Navy Reserve Duty 1999 – 2002; Active Duty 2002 - Present Currently serving as Senior Chaplain, Naval Base San Diego, supervising a team of four to six clergy and twenty support personnel offering over 20 divine services weekly spanning 7 religious traditions in support of 37,000+ military and civilian personnel and their families. Since 2002, have served multiple congregations and communities of Navy, Marine Corps, and Army personnel in California, Virginia, Rhode Island, the United Kingdom, Iraq, and afloat on six ships and have celebrated and preached at 25+ Episcopal and Anglican congregations across 8 dioceses when ashore. Responsive to the spiritual and pastoral needs of people with widely varied faith backgrounds. As Deputy Executive Assistant to the Chief of Navy Chaplains from 2008-2011, managed organizational and administrative support to 900+ chaplains dispersed around the globe. As level of responsibility increased, engaged dynamics of organizational culture, transition, and growth to achieve healthy outcomes.
Vicar, Church of St. Benedict, Diocese of Chicago 1996 - 2002 Led vibrant church on west side of metro Chicago growing from Pastoral to Program size during six years as their Vicar. Expanded worship offerings, lay participation, and lay leadership, spearheaded Christian Education program for all ages, launched Godly Play, EFM, Stephens Ministry, and an Area-Wide youth ministry, facilitated congregational visioning process and at the Bishop’s request led other congregations’ visioning, and guided successful lay-led capital campaign to fund building of a new church.
Assistant Rector, Church of the Good Samaritan, Diocese of East Tennessee 1994 - 1996 Developed innovative team-led adult education program tripling participation and recruited young adult team to invigorate ministry to youth while serving as Assistant at Program size congregation in Knoxville, Tennessee. Launched successful evening series on prayer, meditation, contemplation, and other spiritual disciplines. Provided pastoral care and continuity following Rector’s resignation.
Franciscan Friar and Seminarian, Cincinnati, Kansas City, and Chicago 1987 - 1994 Completed Master of Divinity studies at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois, after transferring from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, having engaged in street ministry to mentally ill homeless people, provided legal aid to the indigent, and taught law at the University of Cincinnati and Loyola University Chicago across six years as a Franciscan friar.
