Powerex Tournament Hilton-Petone 2 0 2 1 Powerex Tournament for the Hilton-Petone Cup Tournament proudly sponsored by Electrical - Data - Security - Heat Pumps www.powerex.nz (04) 891-0154 73 Sydney Street, Petone Welcome elcome to the 2021 Powerex Tournament for the Hilton-Petone Cup. WThe tournament is well supported again this year with 12 teams in Division 1 and 19 teams in Division 2 – nine more teams than the 2019 tournament. This is the 67th year as Wellington’s preseason tournament for local men’s teams and is a great way to put into action what teams have been practicing in a competitive situation. A great preparation for the season ahead. Thanks to Capital Football’s referees for supporting the tournament again, a great way for them to prepare for the season ahead as well. The 2020 tournament was interrupted by COVID restrictions, so we were unable to play the Division 2 final. However, we were able to play the Division 1 final and reigning champions Tawa are back to defend their title. I’m sure there will be some fierce competition, but fair play will be on the top of everyone’s mind as well as injury prevention and building fitness to be ready to compete strongly in the season ahead. Thank you to Upper Hutt for managing the games at Maidstone Park again this year and to all of the volunteers who will be helping on game days, we really appreciate your support in doing this for us. Thanks to Barry Pickering for organising the tournament again – a huge job co-ordinating 31 teams, pitches, draws and officials etc. With him in control it will be successful and enjoyable for everyone involved. Good luck to all of the teams – I hope you get some value from participating in the tournament and enjoy your games ahead. Matt Bliss Chairman [email protected] Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz A Word from Our Sponsor owerex is once again pleased to be associated with Petone FC as the Pprincipal sponsor of the Powerex Women’s teams. This is also our fourth year of involvement with the Tournament for the Hilton-Petone Cup and we are once again looking forward to some quality preseason football from all teams. We wish the Petone Men’s Team all the very best for their second season back in the Central League. The First Word My blood is red… and gold! Welcome to Hutt Park for our final home game of the season. Our title hopes are still alive even after our disappointing last 5 minutes against Wellington United two weeks ago which saw us steal defeat from the jaws of victory! Gutting for coaches, players and sup- porters alike but there’s character in this squad and it was a pleasing return to form—and another clean sheet that saw the team back on track and sitting in third. A gutsy 1 nil victory against Olympic in freezing temperatures on the Wakefield turf means we are still in with a chance to win the tile– albeit a slim chance. Today we welcome newly promoted Wainuiomata. The first round match saw a flattering 5—nil victory however Wainui have improved markedly. They’ve clawed their way back to be ninth , three points and one place higher above cellar dwellers Wests CL / reserves and it must be noted with a significantly better goal average that Wests.

It’s been a month since we played at Hutt Park. A tough away encounter at Wests, a Chatham Cup game in the polar wind tunnel at Wakefield Park against Island Bay and then another night game in freezing conditions against Lower Hutt at Fraser. Well it’s nice to be home and playing during the daytime — on grass! Season two back in Central League has seen an improved start to the campaign. In fact our last home defeat was close to a year ago on the 13th June 2015 against you guessed it — Napier City Rovers. This season has seen a host of yellows and reds being handed out—something like 8 reds in all games we’ve been involved in already! And that seems to be consistent with our Central and Capital Premier colleagues with a host of games being impacted in this way.

With North Wellington being eighth in the Central League and Petone sitting ninth, this is a big day for both teams in the search for valuable points. Petone, with a recent loss to Miramar and being knocked out of the Chatham Cup, now need to focus hard on the league and play to their full potential. Our Women’s First Team’s first home game of 2021 on May 8 resulted in their first three points of the season and they followed that up a win in the first round of the Kate Sheppard Cup on May 16. They play Wairarapa on the May 22 before their game against Vic Uni – we look forward to how many points they can get from those two games. It is fantastic to have the Wellington Phoenix back at Sky Stadium for the first time in over 12 months. They have been playing some great football at their new home over in Aussie – let’s hope they bring their best game back to Wellington and provide some great entertainment to their loyal supporters who will no doubt be at the game in record numbers.

Well it’s nice to be back at home for our last two Men’s Premier matches of the season. And we have a proud record on Hutt Park with our last League and Cup loss being way back in April. After experiencing some unsatisfactory pitch standards at Richard Prouse and Memorial we are forever hopeful that the grass gets cut for today’s match! Today we welcome Wellington United who are fighting for survival against Petone at the foot of the table. However if Upper Hutt do win their playoff matches and move into Central League for 2013 there will be no relegations from Capital Premier. That of course won’t stop today’s match being a tough uncompromising competitive match, and one hopes some expressive football being played. With all the injuries and a couple of suspensions over the last few weeks now sorted, it’s a chance for the boys to really hit their straps.

It’s been a promising start for pretty much all teams in 2014. Sure it’s early days but there’s a nice positive vibe around the club. The Prems signaled their intentions with a good start against Miramar but a hiccup at a windswept and very uninviting Karori Park saw us suffer a 1-2 loss. Refreshing to be back at Hutt Park with a game against the vastly different Island Bay side from the Ole inspired teams of the last couple of seasons. They haven’t had the best start but to be fair have come up against two of the league favourites. And Island Bay are a big club with huge player depth so today will be a massive challenge! Our 2nd team are unbeaten and also come up against Island Bay today on #2. The 3rds have also had a good start to their season with two from two.

Liquid IT Petone vs Waterside Karori Central League 2020 | 3pm, Saturday July 11 | Memorial Park Powerex Petone vs Waterside Karori W-League 2020 | 1pm, Saturday July 18 | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome Waterside Karori to Petone FC and welcome all of our loyal Wsupporters as well as opposition supporters. A quick recap of the last two weekends – our Liquid IT Men’s First Team had a loss and a draw and now sit mid-table, Reserves two good wins, Third Team two losses and Fourth Team two wins and sit nicely on top of the Wellington 3 table. Our Powerex Women’s First Team had two wins and sit near the top of the W-League, Reserves two losses and U18 Team a win and a loss, so this development team is going really well. Our closed-shop teams had a mix of results over the two weeks. But from the vibe in the clubrooms, they are all loving being out playing football again. With a full round of games for all of our teams except masters this week due to the school holidays, we have an exciting weekend ahead of us. The main game today is our Liquid IT Petone Men’s First Team against Waterside Karori – both teams needing points to rise up the league table. The curtain raiser is Petone Reserves versus Waterside Karori Third Team – so hopefully a lot of support for both teams here today. And continuing the theme, next weekend (July 18) our Powerex Women’s First Team also host Waterside Karori.

Central League 2020 Liquid IT Petone FC vs Miramar Rangers Saturday June 13 | 3pm | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome to the 2020 football season, at last! Two-and-a-half months later Wthan normal, but great to have a full season ahead of us playing through to October. The last few months have been crazy and I do hope everyone has kept active and well during this period. I also hope our Men’s and Women’s First Team squads have kept up their fitness, which they all worked so hard on up to lockdown – we’ll see how they hold up in the next few weeks :-) The club has assembled a great Men’s squad again who will be tested in the Central League this year and, as always, our ambition is to do well backing up our glorious promotion success last year. We welcome back old and new players to our squad as well as our new First Team coach Charlie Howe and his assistant Kieran Cripps. Our Women’s W-League Team has been strengthened with some new players enhancing our solid base from last year. We have strong ambition to also do well in the W-League and with coach Kevin Torres we are excited about the year ahead. We have had a good start, last week beating Wellington United 1-0 in the quarterfinal of the Kelly Cup – a good sign of things to come. Our Women’s Reserve Team has also strengthened this year to compete in the Capital Premier League with coach Roger Torres.
