The First Word My blood is red… and gold! Well it’s nice to be back at home for our last two Men’s Premier matches of the season.

And we have a proud record on Hutt Park with our last League and Cup loss being way back in April.

After experiencing some unsatisfactory pitch standards at Richard Prouse and Memorial we are forever hopeful that the grass gets cut for today’s match!

Today we welcome Wellington United who are fighting for survival against Petone at the foot of the table.

However if Upper Hutt do win their playoff matches and move into Central League for 2013 there will be no relegations from Capital Premier.

That of course won’t stop today’s match being a tough uncompromising competitive match, and one hopes some expressive football being played.

With all the injuries and a couple of suspensions over the last few weeks now sorted, it’s a chance for the boys to really hit their straps. We of course are playing for pride sitting safely in mid-table, but motivation won’t be difficult for this game.

I did experience the first match between the two sides at earlier in the season and I know Steve, Scott and the lads were very disappointed in that performance.

So today is a chance to right the wrong!

But Wellington United do come off an impressive 7-0 thumping of Wainuiomata so have found form at the right time of the season! And for us at Stop Out the wider club has had a hugely successful season on and off the field!

Enjoy the football today and enjoy our Stop Out hospitality after match.

August 5, 2012 No. 1st team squad Women’s Premier Stop Out 7 Waikanae (6-2) GK Kath McGuinness (Macdougall 3, Connell 3 Dobie) A cracking day for a game on Hutt #1, shame the council didn't have any juice GK Samara Hill for the mowers - needed a sickle to get down the right wing! It's an amazing opening 10 from the girls - 4 goals in a hurry, with sharp & decisive play 2 Gabriella Ranford generally down the right opening up Waikanae. Tara, Laura & Mel share the 3 Kelsey O’Connor spoils - Steph & Kathryn integral for width in our play. The next 80 minutes would be a different story - but the girls in red do dominate for the most part. 4 Kathryn Burt In the middle of the park Amalia is combatitive, a good foil for the endeavour 5 April Gallagher of Mel Mac while over the on the left flank 'Tash & Kelsey finally start to see some of the ball. Both keen to get themselves forward & involved in the 6 Sophie Burley action. At the back Waikanae tighten up - a bit of Jeykell & Hide you might say and the 'keeper is warming to the task & playing well on a busy day for her. 7 Melanie McDougall Waikanae have some punch up front - two cracking finishes to send us a little 8 Alysa Darby reminder to keep our mind on the job. We find two more of our own - with Jade & Alysa on for some fresh legs up front while debutant Letesha doesn't 9 Melissa Adams miss a beat, taking over from Steph on the right & proving a handful for their 10 Danielle Duggan defence. By the half Tara has her hat trick - the third very well taken - and she's off for a family celebration. That was some cameo! 11 Tara Connell

12 Alana Marsh The second half is more reds domination - 'Tash strong on the left as opportunities present themselves, Amalia serves up some tasty corners and 13 Amalia Lipdis Laura is smart in her play on the ball. Mel Mac links well on numerous occassion and rightly claims a hat trick with her usual aplomb. At the back 14 Stephanie Bremner Kath & her defensive deputies ensure a second half clean sheet - Dani' & April 15 Sonia Hawke committed & defending on the front foot. Jade is some pace at times for Waikanae to try and contain - and for the most part it's hard to complain as the 16 Nicole Hay girls keep their shape and do continue to 17 Courtnee Cropp PREMIER LEAGUE: knock the ball about with patience...better than they did when we went up the coast 18 Natasha Ingram Stop Out vs Marist earlier in the season & won comfortably. 19 Laura Dobie Sun 12th August - 1pm HUTT PARK 1 It's great to see the clubrooms packed - four 20 Nicola Bowden teams & their supporters enjoying a chat, a Women Div 1: bite and a drink - perfect! On the day - an 21 Danielle Thorne encouraging, 90 minutes of energy & smarts 22 Jess Fussell Stop Out vs Wgtn Utd from Amalia - plus those corner kicks, 3pts. Sun 12th August – 1pm Laura, using the top two inches with some 23 Jaimee Bialy HUTT PARK 2 smart & unselfish play 2pts . While for her 24 Cathy Fussell endeavour & impact on the right, Steph 1pt.

8 Womens’ Round up for 2012 Women’s 3rd team Stop Out 5, Norths 2 (Heather 3, Nicola, Jenny) 1st team. 3rd in Capital Premier. Final game and what a grand finale! Leading Premier 6 team league We’re up against the ole legends of women’s football 2nd team. Promoted from Women’s 2. – the experienced North’s, we're on the home ground (lawn guys on strike) and spring is in the air. Promoted from Women’s 3. 3rd team. Stop Out are on form pretty early in the piece and knocking the ball around and it’s Heather who scores a beauty. Not too much later we have a bit of ping pong football and some great efforts from Jacinta but its Heather who gets the last foot on it and off a North’s player it’s into the goal and things look up for Stop Out. North’s do not take things lying down and rearrange their defence line but for the rest of the half, we see most of the action and there are a number of attacks from us. Courtenay and Mel Moore as industrious in the mid field, Narumon , Alisha, Janae outstanding as ever , Ali shows us her might and diligence, she’s getting some great ball up front and we get some one on ones with the goalie from the likes of Nicola, Louise and April but North’s goalie is just too good for us to advance the score any further in this half.

Second half team talk has us talking about the 2 up curse and not to be complacent we do some rearranging of the team, a bit of confusion sets in and North’s take advantage of this and within quick succession they have equalised the score with 2 outstanding strikes. Darn curses! WOMENS Premier 6 team league We are just not attacking that loose ball and things P W D L F A GD PTS begin to look dangerous but Hannah ensures that 1 Stop Out 2 2 0 0 9 3 6 6 no more goals are scored and Janae gets the Stop Out girls sorted with some shape back and with 2 Marist 2 1 1 0 4 1 3 4 Mel M showing us her skill in the midfield and 3 BNU 2 1 1 1 2 2 0 3 getting ball up our way, Nicola show us what only Nicola can do and things are on the up 4 Waterside 2 0 0 1 1 2 -1 1 again. Heather is as robust as ever and never holds 5 Nth Wgtn 2 0 0 1 2 5 -3 1 back and sets up a perfect ball for Jenny to score! 6 Waikanae 2 0 0 1 4 9 -5 1 We’ve got our mojo back and Jacintas is doing some suburb work at the back on left and getting some great ball through to Debs who is on form. Alisha who never ceases to amaze me how she can read the game like no other gets the job done so that the North’s can’t penetrate her line. We are awarded with a penalty when Nicola receives a dangerous tackle, Heather takes this with the self assured aplomb we’re used to, to score our final goal and her hat trick. There was a moment there when Captain Janae looked to score at the end, so very close, a hold your breath moment but were happy with a 5-2 win and we head back to the clubrooms for some celebrations. Thanks Louise and Narumon for the cake!

A huge thank you to all who have supported us this season, special mention to Malcolm always on hand with the nets! Great to have Shanna although injured always there for support. To all you mums, dads and families – Thanks! It’s been a fantastic season. Jenny 3 points(yay!) Heather 2 points (just another day at the office for her, superb); 1 point -Narumon and Alisha (our great left and right lieutenants – another outstanding game)

The Last Word! Life-long Stop Out fan Michael Barton

shares his views on the footballing world! The rant starts here....

Like many of you I am up for watching football. The World Cup, the Chatham Cup, JPL or even a kick about in the park I am happy to watch it. That said and whilst recognising that cynicism is not an attractive trait I am already a

little fed up with the Olympics football tournament.

Firstly, yes it is, I acknowledge, a good opportunity for some younger players to play on a larger stage. Secondly,

do we, the football family, really need to prostate ourselves at the Olympic Games altar? We have our World Cups, both the men’s and women’s, which have far higher playing standards and huge audiences. Again, do we really need to turn up at the Olympic Games? Already today I saw a headline stating it was a shock that Spain is out of the

Olympics. A shock that the “World and European’ champions were out. Excuse me! The World and European

champions, last time I looked, were not some under twenty three, with a few over age players, team but the very best that Spain can assemble.

Still that must be an easy mistake to make.Moving on, did anyone else read the opinion piece in the Hutt News, on the seventeenth of July, about the game of football? It was a piece of heavily flawed writing and as it was in a local paper I thought I would mention it. My hope is that it just wasn’t me that noticed it. The piece had this particular

line “But then football has long been the lowest common denominator in terms of sport.”

Well, I am not sure how you feel but I was not the least bit impressed. It makes me wonder why the writer attacked our game with such a broad brush. You know, it was cheeky to a large degree. That said I was pleased to see that after my letter, albeit tongue in cheek, of complaint to the Hutt News that they pointed readers to a Facebook page in order to allow some right of reply and some further debate.

It also intrigues me as I do not think I have seen a particular sport singled out like that. In any case, the old adage made famous by Phineas T. Barnum, the circus owner from the USA, that 'there's no such thing as bad publicity' in my opinion holds true here.

Lastly, the end of the Capital Premier League season is coming nearer. When it comes to an something almost odd happens. Have you noticed that many of the familiar faces that you see week in and week out at the Hutt Park disappear?. Where does everyone go to? It’s not like the greater Wellington area is that big but hide within it we seem to do. I have always been fascinated by this vanishing act right back to schoolboy days. Surely I am not alone.
