THE RISEN FIRST APPEARS TO HIS MOTHER. (Pius tradition promoted by St. Ignatius of Loyola.)

St. Ignatius of Loyola, who founded the (Jesuits), of- fers us a on Jesus’ ap- pearance to his Mother just after his resurrection.

His meditation on this appearance is found in his “The Spiritual Exercis- es”, a focused series of done under a trained director for persons making a silent for an ex- tended period of days. In this specific exercise Ignatius directs the person making the exercise, let’s say that includes us this Easter weekend, to see with our imagination the house of our Lady, noting its different parts, and our Lady’s room in particular. Next we are to consider how Christ appears to console Our Lady, not unlike the way friends console one another. Finally, we are to ask God for the grace to rejoice and be glad because of the great joy and glory that is the Risen Christ’s. Depending on each person's pat- tern of praying, parishioners are invited to allot a half hour to an hour meditat- ing privately on this unrecorded but believable Easter scene.

May all attending the parish of St. and the Mission of St. Michael the Archangel receive the grace of the joy of the Risen Christ throughout this Easter Season. QUESTIONS ABOUT CATHOLICISM? At this blessed time of Easter, a family member or friend might cross your mind, someone who has expressed interest in Catholicism or someone who has been away from the church and seeks to rejoin. Perhaps they are unbaptized, or if baptized, have not received, for whatever reason, the sac- raments of Holy Communion or Confirmation. If so, please do your part by putting them in contact with Mary Barry who coordinates our parish program, called the Rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) to discern their way (803-285-6783) or by email at: [email protected]. ’s Prayer Intentions for May As part of the worldwide Juntas y Eventos Parroquiales Apostleship of Prayer and in union Abril 20 - Abril 26 with , please remember prayerfully the following intention Sábado — Abril 20, 2019 this month.
