As part of the £13 million development of Aberdeen , JCDecaux Airport UK introduce the Aberdeen Totems. Dominating the airport forecourt, these double-sided advertising panels capture 100% of the arriving and departing audience. Halo lighting provides a customised finish to a unique advertising opportunity.

The redevelopment will totally alter the look and feel of the terminal, including a larger lounge area, more retail opportunities, refreshed arrivals products with new reclaims belts for both domestic and international passengers, and a state-of-the-art new security search area.

2015 marks the launch of a new digital opportunity set to completely change the landscape of Heathrow’s iconic Terminal 5. The Towers @ T5 will consist of a set of 5 imposing structures, fitted with 7 landscape full motion digital screens; ensuring a dominant presence within both the terminal’s landside and airside Departures locations.

The new screens are set to reach over 15.6 million passengers a year within Heathrow’s busiest airport terminal.

As part of their £8 million investment in 2015, Eye Airports has unveiled a giant, curved advertising screen at , the first of its kind in the world.

The 12-metre screen integrates digital copy with flight information, which the airport advertising specialist claims will “maximise consumer engagement”.

Eye Airports has enhanced its advertising estate at Newcastle International Airport with the addition of 70-inch, high-definition digital advertising screens.

With limited outdoor advertising space across the city in northeast UK, the new media offers an opportunity for brands to build campaigns and connect with audiences.

The screens are also compatible with mobile technology, offering further ways to engage consumers.

London City Airport experienced significant growth in 2014, reaching a total of 3.6m passengers, up by +9% y-o-y.

The forecast for 2015 is +14%, mainly due to the introduction of that now operates to 6 European destinations.

As a result, London City Airport is initiating a digital rollout over the next 6 months:

FOR A LANDSCAPE OF POSSIBILITIES HEATHROW REVEALS UPGRADED RETAIL OFFER AT NEW-LOOK TERMINAL 5

London has opened a refurbished Terminal 5 after an 18- month, £40 million investment. Luxury retail, including brands such as Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Rolex and Bottega Veneta, lies at the heart of the revamped facility. Among the other highlights is the first Fortnum & Mason store and bar at an airport.

The terminal now has a collection of 22 fashion and luxury brands.

Heathrow Airport reported a solid set of results for 2014, with retail income increasing by +2.4% to £503 million.

The performance, noted Heathrow, reflected several factors, including the strength of Sterling relative to last year, the impact of works through the summer on Terminal 5 luxury retail improvements and the moves associated with the Terminal 2 opening last June.

ADP Ingénierie has unveiled its latest design for Terminal 1 at Beijing’s New Daxing Airport.

Inspired by Chinese architectural traditions and symbols, the key feature of the airport operator's design concept is the vertical stacking of the international and domestic levels with a single, centralised passenger- handling centre.

Helsinki Airport has unveiled a new look for its luggage lobby Exit 2B, designed in collaboration with Finnish interior designer and sculptor Stefan Lindfors.

The redesign combines Finnish nature and technology, while building on the original features of the luggage lobby.

The last 12 months Have seen Stansted once again become the UK’s fastest growing airport with passenger numbers increasing by over 11 per cent to nearly 20 million a year.

And the amount of cargo passing through Stansted also increased as the airport moved over 220,000 tonnes of goods and products during the year.

FOR A LANDSCAPE OF POSSIBILITIES MANCHESTER'S DIRECT FLIGHTS TO HONG KONG WILL MAKE CITY 'FANTASTIC HUB FOR BUSINESS'

Manchester is the only airport outside of London to offer a non-stop flight to China, after striking a deal with global giants Cathay Pacific.

The first flight jetted out of the city in Dec 2014 and Charlie Cornish, CEO of Manchester Airports Group, said that there was no other airport outside of the capital that could attract such a route.

ACI Europe has released its Digital Report 2014-2015, which outlines trends in how airports are communicating with their passengers through social and digital media.

The report outlines the level of Wi-Fi use at airports, airports’ presence and interaction on social networks and trends in mobile activity. Social networks covered by the report include Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, VK (VKontacte) and LinkedIn. The report also outlines the ways that airports use these social networks.

FOR A LANDSCAPE OF POSSIBILITIES INTEL MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS STATION DOMINATION

The Mobile World Congress takes place in Barcelona from the 2nd-5th March. The interior of the venue tends to be quite cluttered in terms of advertising - so working with a local media owner, Intel’s creative team at Miresball and OMD International, Talon recommended dominating every media site in the interior and exterior of Fira, the closest station to the venue. In addition, the station has now been renamed Fira Intel for the duration of the event, featuring the #movingmobile message on the exterior of the building and the Intel logo has been added to all signposting around the station.

FOR A LANDSCAPE OF POSSIBILITIES VISA TARGETING THE FASTEST GROWING AUDIENCE IN INTERNATIONAL TOURISM

Visa has been running two campaigns in three markets - London, Frankfurt and Paris. The objective was to target Chinese tourists and inform them that they would get better rates when using Visa products. Talon identified which terminals of the main airport in each market carried the highest number of Chinese passengers. Specific sites were then selected in these areas, reaching Chinese tourists throughout the passenger flow of the terminal. The campaigns have been active for 3 months.

Dutch bank ING Group today launched its ‘World, here I come!’ international marketing campaign, at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. It will be rolled out gradually over the next two years.

The campaign includes various advertisements and activations across the airport, aiming to empower travellers during their trip. Messages such as ‘Mum’s cooking, here I come’ and ‘Uncharted territory, here I come’ will be visible on all the air bridges at the airport.

The campaign utilises DOOH screens integrated in POS units across prime airports.

The screens feature facial recognition technology which then reflects the person’s face in an Andy Warhol style.

This image is then encouraged to be shared across social media platforms.

The month-long Diageo Reserve World Class pop-up bar promotion, which ran through December, drove a double-digit increase in brand sales at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport.

The pop-up bar in the departures concourse was designed to bring the theatre of mixology to airport users. The cocktail bar offered passengers the opportunity to discover spirits from the Diageo Reserve portfolio.

L’Oréal Luxe Travel Retail Asia Pacific is staging a Chinese New Year activation at Hong Kong International Airport from 3 February to 5 March.

Taking place at Terminal 1, the campaign features an interactive booth decorated with Chinese lanterns. Travellers can discover their fortune in the Year of the Goat on the Zodiac Wall, as well as send personalised video greetings to their loved ones via e-mail.
