  • Inverness Information Pack PDF 367Kb Download
Inverness General information Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands acts as the hub for transport, administration and economic links in the north of Scotland. One of the fastest growing cities in Europe it is well provisioned with retail, healthcare and industrial sectors plus a booming tourist trade. Within minutes of leaving the city it is possible to be surrounded by wide-open spaces and stunning scenery – most notably Loch Ness, which at around 23 miles long holds more fresh water than all the lakes of England and Wales combined. The River Ness that flows out from Loch Ness winds through the heart of the city, providing tranquil riverside walks along its banks and Ness Islands. Transport links Inverness’s connections to the rest of the UK, Europe and beyond are strong, with daily flights from the airport to London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Dublin and Amsterdam. Regular rail services serve Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, plus the Caledonian Sleeper runs overnight to London Euston six times per week. By road it is 2.5 hours to Aberdeen, and access to the UK motorway network via Perth can be made in under 3 hours. Travel times to Highland mountain regions – and their winter ski resorts – are also brief with Aviemore and the Cairngorms under an hour to the south-east and Ben Nevis just 70 miles to the south-east. Ullapool and the West Coast can be reached in just over an hour. Inverness Airport The location of Inverness Airport 9 miles to the east of the city makes it ideally positioned for commuting in from the wider area.

DONCASTER PIR Executive Summary Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (RHADS) is a regional airport that developed from a former Royal Air Force (RAF) base known as RAF Finningley. The first commercial flight at the Airport was in 2005. In 2006, RHADS submitted an application for controlled airspace (CAS) in order to provide protection to the commercial air transport (CAT) flights operating in and out of the airport, and to connect the airport to the adjacent airways structure. The Airport lies in a unique position virtually surrounded on all four sides by small Light and General Aviation (LA and GA) airfields. This made routing CAT under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), nominally under a Deconfliction Service (DS), extremely challenging. In 2008, the CAA approved Class D CAS for RHADS, which provided a Control Zone (CTR) and associated Terminal Control Areas (CTAs). The Airspace Change Proposal attracted objections from a variety of stakeholders, each staking a legitimate claim to continue to operate without the restrictions and control measures that CAS brings. The majority of those who objected removed their objection following further consultation with RHADS and the development of formal agreements.

Debate Pack Westminster Hall Debate: Number CDP 2021/0118 By Dr Roger Tyers, The Future of Regional Airports Noel Dempsey, Georgina Hutton, Fintan Codd 6 July 2021 1 Background 2 2 Parliamentary Material 13 3 Press/Blog Articles 17 4 Further Reading 18 The Future of Regional Airports 1 Background A Westminster Hall Debate on Wednesday 7 July has been scheduled for 7 July on the topic of the ‘Future of Regional Airports’, sponsored by Steve Double MP. The Library has prepared the following material about current issues facing regional airports, including their usage, economic contribution, support granted during the Covid-19 pandemic, and future issues facing regional airports including potential changes to Air Passenger Duty (ADP), climate goals, and expansion plans. Defining Regional Airports The term ‘regional airport’ is not a statutory or legislative one, although it is very widely used in writings about UK airports. The Transport Sub-committee of the Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Select Committee conducted an inquiry into regional air services in 1997. This paper adopts their definition of regional airports being any UK airport other than London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, London Luton, Southend and London City), and the airports on the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.1 Use of regional airports The Civil Aviation Authority publishes data on 42 regional airports.2 During 2019 (the latest year unaffected by Covid-19) there were 1.05 million air passenger transport movements (landings and take-offs) collectively by regional airports. This was 48% of all air passenger transport movements across all UK reporting airports (London area and regional).
