12.00 – 12.30 Guest Speaker Sugata Mitra Professor Sugata Mitra will be delivering this year's William Alderson Memorial Trust Lecture on Self Organised Learning Environments (SOLE's).

Sugata Mitra is Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK. Sugata and his colleagues have carried out research for over 13 years on the nature of self-organised learning: how it works, to what extent, and the role of adults in encouraging it. His innovative and bold efforts towards advancing learning for students all over the world earned him the first-ever $1 million dollar TED Prize.

12.30 – 13.30 Lunch

13.30 – 15.00 Workshops This year, our educational workshops will be putting you in the driving seat. Using the SOLE approach you’ll have an hour and a half to explore a single Adult Education themed ‘Big Question’ that will promote critical thinking. By gathering, sharing and discussing thoughts and ideas you’ll contribute to your group’s collective knowledge to provide a summary of your findings to the other delegates. This creative approach to learning is sure to create an environment that promotes your curiosity.

15.00 – 16.00 Feedback from Workshops This can be done in any way chosen by the individual groups. 16.00 Depart

Borough Road Car Park (number 1 on map) Borough Road Wakefield West Yorkshire WF1 3AZ £2.80 for up to 4 hours Charges apply 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday to Saturday. 4 hours maximum stay.

Wood Street (Police Station) Car Park Gills Yard Wakefield West Yorkshire WF1 3BZ £5.80 for over 4 hours Charges apply 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday to Saturday. This is a small car park and is often full.

Rail travel The nearest rail station to the venue is Wakefield Westgate Station. Walking from Wakefield Westgate Station takes around 10 minutes and involves heading up the pedestrian pathway directly ahead of the entrance to the station. You can also travel to Wakefield Kirkgate Station and use the Free City Bus (details below) to get to the venue.

Free City Bus Wakefield Free City Bus links key locations around Wakefield City Centre including Wakefield Westgate Station, Wakefield Kirkgate Station and . Buses run every 10-12 minutes from 0830 to 1700 on Saturdays. All journeys on the Wakefield Free City Bus are free. Each vehicle is fully accessible and can carry one wheelchair at a time. Disabled access The building has a level entrance and a lift to all floors. The venue has wheelchair-accessible toilets on the ground and second floors.
