the•BONA•dish A Dining Guide: St. Bonaventure, NY “Tell me what you eat, And I will tell you what you are.” -Brillat-Savarin A Note from the Editor... From the deep-dish pizza of Chicago, Illinois, to a Cuban sandwich from Miami Florida, there isn’t any doubt that these cities’ culinary reputations help to define them and emphasize their best qualities. St. Bonaventure, New York and the surrounding communi- ty aren’t any different. Through this local restaurant survey publication, the•BONA•dish, students will be able to get a feel for the area’s best and worst dining. From our own mystery meat at the Hickey Dining Hall to chicken wings & torpedoes at Randy’s Up the River and steak at the Century Manor; students at St. Bonaventure University will finally have a guide to all the different places to eat, drink and be merry. This scaled consumer based resource includes top menu items in addition to reviews and rankings based on quality of food, service and atmosphere. It’s all based on a 30-point scale and designed to help the perplexed diner decide where to eat. Bon Appetite, Christine Perez- O’Rourke *RATING SYSTEM: the•BONA•dish evaluates each restaurant on a specific rating system based on the reviews of St. Bonaventure students. Ratings are done on a 30-point scale. 10 points devoted to each category; food quality, service and atmosphere. A pricing guide (excluding tax and tip) is also included with the ratings for each restaurant. You’ll see this ratings on every restaurant review page along with a notation if students can use Bona Bucks at that restaurant Food Quality, Service, Atmosphere: 30 pt.

  • Cindy's Helpful Hints
The Original, Award Winning, Often Imitated, New and Improved… Cindy's Guide to Living (cheaply) in Champaign-Urbana 2020 (Please see Disclaimer – Updated from 2019 version only up to Entertainment section) Disclaimer (August 6, 2020) The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected businesses in the Champaign-Urbana area. All but “essential” businesses in the State of Illinois were required to shut down for several months. We are currently in Phase 4 of the “Restore Illinois” plan to reopen the State. This means most “non-essential” businesses have been allowed to reopen under strict guidelines, including a reduction in the number of patrons allowed at one time. Most businesses have greatly reduced their hours and services; some have been able to offer curbside pickup services; some rearranged their merchandise/seating to accommodate social distancing; some expanded to include outdoor seating areas; and, unfortunately, some have been unable to reopen at all. I have been working from home since mid-March and am unable to keep up with all the casualties. A few business closings were featured on the local news and I have, sadly, deleted them from these pages. Others drifted quietly into oblivion, with no fanfare, and have gone completely unnoticed by me. I apologize in advance if I have missed a favorite business’ closing and have failed to remove it from this Guide. I strongly suggest contacting businesses before venturing out into the great unknown. I hope we can continue to move forward to Phase 5, but I am afraid we may return to Phase 3 at some point before this disease has been vanquished.

Recently, an effort has been made for an objective definition of “traditional foods”, aimed at setting a scientific and regulatory approach to their study and management. From a semantic point of view, however, tradition is a complex of uses, habits and ways of life that are transmitted across generations, often through oral communication. Traditional facts are therefore intrinsically local and diverse, escaping deterministic classification; sometimes they reveal striking converging features, depending on common environmental and cultural constraints.
