2016 Friday night El toro Racing:

this year the Friday night El toro racing became the Friday night Dingy racing night. We had toppers, bics, El toros, Lasers, Laser Radials, and 420s. there were light to moderate air nights, heavy air nights and even some res - cues. Our season started on April 1 and finished September 23 as our evenings became shorter. the Eco Flag was used as the Committee boat start and finish line. the flag promotes clean air and water through sporting events worldwide (ecoflag.com). the club invites non-members to come and join the fun. We had UH sail - ing team members, Hawaii Kai boat Club sailors and parents come and sail and assist with the races, and some sailors from WYC. Our KYC sailors hosted the guests with Junior Commodore, Malia Johnson setting the example. She organized a Pizza night on the last night to celebrate the final racing night of Above: Tournament winner Lucrecia Fry and her crew with her 4.8 lb Papio. Below: Wahine Fishing Tournament Contestants at the Weigh In. the season. there was good sportsmanship and sailors helping sailors during the entire season. by the end of the season we had 23 nights of racing with 65 races scored. there were 34 different racers who competed in one or more of the six classes of boats. in the end we had winners in each class and one tie.

September this year found the fleet scrambling to hold the Clare Lang tournament a month early. All ended well with a great tournament and super competition. the Clare Lang is one of only two ‘real’ tournaments the fleet holds each year. the monthly tennis event is a round robin format with part - ners changing every set but the tom Collins, in May, and the Clare Lang, in the fall, are tournaments where you keep your partner the whole day…..so very important to choose the right partner. the tom Collins is Mixed Doubles with each team consisting of a man and a woman. the Clare Lang has two men or two women as partners., and for both players must be KYC and tennis Fleet members. in the evening Susie and David Jannuzzi/White hosted a Greek Potluck in their lovely home. the food was out of this world in variety and delicious to taste. Didn’t spot any togas but there was a great life size cutout of a very handsome Greek Warrior that was in many photos……..check the bulletin board to see them. Hard to believe that we are thinking Christmas already but it is true!! We need to pick a theme and colors for decorations, as well as a menu for our sit- down Holiday Celebration which is on Friday, December 30th. Watch your email for information about the the Fleet was very sorry to hear about Don brown. Don was a very fun player in the fleet several years ago and our condolences go out to Ruth Ann.
