Happy New Year from all of the Deckhands! We hope that everyone had a wonderful Holiday! The Deckhand of the Year award was presented at the Commodore's Ball on December 8. For those of you who were not able to attend, here is a little history about the award: Did you know that this award was started in 1986 and has a long list of outstanding volunteers. You might be surprised to know that you donʻt need to be a member of the Deckhands or even a woman to receive this honor. The first person to receive this honor was, Ethel Giles she must have been amazing. Maybe some of you remember her. I am sure you may remember or know Char Starr, Ramona and Spotswood Robertson, Diane Minsky, Betty BirdSong, Bill Bachman, Ron Dodini, Bob Hurd, Bob Palmer and the list goes on for 32 years all the way up to last year's recipient Rennie Faith. This year's award was presented to, Sally Bogert President of the Deckhands for the last two years. She is an avid sailor, having spent the better part of five years cruising the Caribbean islands then crossing the Atlantic to spend time in the Mediterranean and beyond. She has participated in the santaʻs helpers Photos: Margaret Peebles Thursday and Sunday bulkhead races on board “Eau De Vie”. Sally is a pleasure to work with and all the Deckhands have appreciated her dedication to the club. It takes every member of the Deckhands and all of the Deckhand Volunteers to keep all of our activities moving. I would like to take this opportunity to give a Huge Mahalo to all, for their hard work. It was a great year that included Keiki Parties for Easter, Halloween and Christmas, NewComers Pupu Parties, Pacific Cup, Game Nights, Wounded Warrior Day on The Bay and many other special events. Mahalo to everyone of the Deckhands for a very successful 2018:

Sally Bogert, President Ann Ayling, Membership Chair Margaret Peebles, Vice President Terry Beuret, Membership Ruthann Quitiquit, Vice President/Purchasing Bobbie Youngblood, Membership Laura Kelley, Asst. VP Locker Rennie Faith, Keiki Parties Wendy Jackson, Secretary Barbra Green, Locker Beau Barker, Treasurer Sue McBride, Locker Sherri Phillips, Asst Treasurer/Keiki Parties Lani Brandt, Locker Sime Gross, BOD Advisor

We look forward to Susie Januzzi joining the Deckhands in January. We santaʻs Arrival by sea! would also like to thank Terry Beuret for her dedication to the Deckhands. The Keiki Christmas Party was held on December 15. Mahalo to Rennie Faith and Sherri Phillips for all of their amazing planning. There was tons of snow for snowball making, cookie decorating, shaved ice and treats. The highlight was a visit from Santa who arrived by sea on John and Simeʻs boat. It was a great way to start the Holidays.
