4 Punctuality and Attendance Punctuality and attendance are imperative to a smooth and productive day! Absences are excused only for medical or family emergencies (OLDER COMPANY PARENTS, PLEASE READ CLAUSE 2 OF OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS ON PAGE 5.) Planned early pickups or late drop offs must be communicated to the Stage Manager (Older Company) or Director (Younger Company) 48 hours prior.

Parent Involvement A positive acting experience for most students not only comes from his/her immediate rehearsal environment, but from the support he/she receives at home. We strongly encourage parents to engage in dialogue with their children about their character in the play. As a parent, get creative; help run lines, talk to your child about his/her character, how he/she might feel and express him/herself, and most importantly encourage your child regularly to stick with it while praising him/her on all that he/she is doing well! We welcome any questions or concerns you might have and pride ourselves on the personal attention we give to our students and their parents.

Cancellation Policy If a cancellation is made before April 16, we will refund fees paid minus your 40% non-refundable deposit. After April 16, all fees are non-refundable. Partial credit toward future programming may be issued in the case of medical emergencies.

Registration Policy If you paid a deposit before April 16, full payment and follow up forms are due by April 16 in order for us to hold your space in camp. You may make payments and complete follow up forms at any time by logging into your online account with us at www.theaterforkids.net/account.php . All balances will be automatically charged on April 16. The balance for registrations taken after April 16 will be charged on May 24. After May 24, all registrations must be paid in full upon registering, as deposit options are no longer available. There will be a $35 fee applied to any returned check or credit card.

Auditions (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins WICKED, & Annie Jr)

All Denver session Auditions will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 2290 South Clayton (near University/Evans).

Beginner and experienced students alike will be featured in our summer shows. Give yourself an edge in the auditions, sign up for our Audition Preparation Workshop on Sat, May 9 (more details below).

Attending the Audition gives Campers the best opportunity to be seen, but in the case of a long distance registration or if you will be unavailable on the audition date, a DVD or a YouTube link of your child must be submitted to us on the Friday prior to the scheduled audition date. 3 & 4 week Campers will receive audition guidelines with their script. 2 week Campers should [email protected] for audition guidelines. Ensure proper playback of your DVD after recording and ensure your YouTube video is PUBLIC. We will not attempt to troubleshoot non-functioning media. Audition Format for Les Miserables & Mary Poppins In order to have more time to get to know our students and better cast them, we are auditioning actors in small groups of similar age range, giving them more time to demonstrate their skills to our creative team. Actors may also have a chance to read opposite other actors in a safe and unintimidating environment. Each group audition will last one hour. Students considered for lead roles may be called back for a call back (second audition) at the end of the day, so please be available from 4-6pm, in addition to your audition time, on the audition day.

Denver ______303.245.8150 • [email protected] • www.theaterforkids.net 5311 Western Avenue, Ste. 135 • Boulder, CO 80301

10 Group Audition Format for WICKED & Annie Jr In order to have more time to get to know our students and better cast them, we are auditioning actors in two groups of similar age range, giving them more time to demonstrate their skills to our creative team. Actors will also have a chance to read opposite other actors in a safe and unintimidating environment.

Audition Preparation Workshop This workshop is limited to first 60 registrants. The workshop happens Saturday, May 9 from 11am to 3pm at RMTK at 5311 Western Avenue, Ste 135 in Boulder. In the workshop, we will learn how to prepare for the audition, how to pick good roles compatible with your child’s skill & experience level, learn basic audition protocol, such as how to do a professional slate, boost self confidence, and more.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is not required and will not affect casting but is merely intended for those seeking audition help. As an added and optional feature of the camp, the workshop has a fee of $40. You may add this to your registration by logging into your account at www.theaterforkids.net/account.php or call us at 303-245-8150.

Casting Policy Please be aware that no student is guaranteed any one particular part, no matter what their acting resume is like. We choose whichever student we feel is best suited for a particular part. This is a very complex process especially when you're trying to cast many kids who are all auditioning for the same two parts. On that note, parents, please encourage your children to find parts other than the main character to audition for. Often the supporting roles are the most interesting.

Costume Measurements (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, WICKED, & Annie Jr) Costumes Fees are already included in the tuition. Each camper will be fitted individually for their costume(s) by a professional costumer. We will take your child’s measurements on the day of his/her audition or during the first days of the camp session.

What Students Will Be Learning The primary focus of all 2 - 4 week sessions is on enhancing the performer’s creativity and skill which may include the following: • Enhancing the connection to the body • Vocal technique - ear training and expanding vocal range • Speech - articulation and projection • Dance technique training • Creating active stage presence • Using stage direction and blocking • Examining character motivation • Taking creative risks

Majors and Peer Groups (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, WICKED, & Annie Jr) On the first day of camp, students will be split into age-based peer groups. Each peer group will meet at the beginning and end of each camp day for check-in, group warm-ups, and basic drama exercises. Peer groups foster an intimacy and camaraderie between students within the larger group.

Majors are an important component of our program. Each student will choose two "Majors" and spend one hour per day in Majors. Choices may include: stage combat, auditioning, improvisation, voice, dance, or makeup.

Mixed Age Groups (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, WICKED, & Annie Jr) Outside of peer groups, much of the camp day is spent in mixed age groups. We have found during our experience that when children are taken out of their exclusive peer group they often thrive and make huge creative leaps. This is why: when a younger child of eight or is around children a little older than her/him, she/he is far less likely to be caught up in the chaotic energy that often comes with exclusive groups of young children. Rather, she/he is more likely to be interested in what the older students are doing and wanting to model them. The same goes for our older students who are often likely to be caught up in the social model of what it is to look and act "cool". This can sometimes become a huge obstacle in their ability to let go, improvise and really enter a character. The older students will often take on a mentoring role with many of the younger students and thus the group dynamic becomes balanced and thrives!

1 Week Camp Sessions

Theatrical Combat & Singers Conservatory each offers different specialties. In general the daily schedules are composed of creative process work, dramatic exercises, solo and ensemble work, portfolio and resume building, or training as applicable, lunch, and breaks. Call us if you ’d like more specifics.
