Tokį šio tomo leitmotyvą iš dalies paska- tino šių dienų gyvenimo realijos – bendruomeniškumo, be kurio neįsivaizduojamas autentiškas krikščioniškas tikėjimas, krizė. Pavargusi nuo sovietinio kolektyvizmo, Lietuvos visuomenė noriai atsidavė egoistiško individualizmo pagundai. Tam tikras susvetimėjimas paženklino ir specifines profesionalų grupes. Džiugu, kad viltingą perspektyvą įveikti atskirtį tarp negausių Lietuvoje triūsiančių Bažnyčios ir krikš- čionybės istorijos tyrinėtojų 2012 m. atvėrė atnaujinta Tarptautinės lyginamosios Bažnyčios istorijos komisijos (Commission Internationale d’Histoire Ecclésiasti- que Comparée) Lietuvos skyriaus veikla. Šis skyrius dar Lietuvos atgimimo metais buvo įkurtas Jerzy Kłoczowskio iniciatyva, tačiau vadovaujant dr. Juozui Tumeliui savo veiklos neišplėtojo. Norisi tikėtis, kad maždaug dvi dešimtys tyrinėtojų, naujai susibūrusių į šią bendruomenę, ne vien intensyviau keisis informacija apie tarp- tautinius mokslo renginius, organizuojamus už Lietuvos ribų, bet ir geriau pažins vienas kitą. Tokią viltį simboliškai įkūnija šiame Bažnyčios istorijos studijų tome skelbiama Arūno Streikaus parengta 2011–2012 m. krikščionybės Lietuvoje istorijos tyrimų bibliografija. Be to, dialogą kuriančią pastangą ne vien kalbėti, bet ir klau- sytis, išgirsti bei reaguoti atliepia tradicinę, „monologinę“ straipsnių dalį papildantis Reginos Laukaitytės atsiliepimas apie Dariaus Petkūno monografiją. Galbūt kitame Bažnyčios istorijos studijų tome jau pavyks suformuoti recenzijų skyrių? Dešimtyje šio tomo straipsnių gvildenami įvairūs religinių bendruomenių, grupių ir bendrijų gyvenimo, tapatybės ir veiklos aspektai. Bene daugiausia tekstų skirta katalikų dvasininkų grupėms – Reinis Norkākls pristato iki šiol netyrinėtą Livonijos-Kuršo vyskupijos dvasininkiją, o Liudas Jovaiša skelbia XVII a. 1-osios pusės Žemaičių vyskupijos dvasininkų prozopografinį sąrašą. Specifinėms dvasi- ninkijos grupėms skirti dar du tekstai – Wioletta Pawlikowska-Butterwick piešia tipišką XVI a. 2-osios pusės Vilniaus kapitulos nario portretą, o Aldona Prašmantaitė supažindina su Žemaičių vyskupijos dvasininkais, po 1863 m. atsidūrusiais eg- zotiškoje katalikų kunigų bendruomenėje tolimame Sibiro kaime. Dviejų labai skirtingų vienuolinių bendruomenių – kamaldulių ir bonifratrų – santvarkai, struktūrai ir kasdieniam gyvenimui XVIII a. skirti Mindaugo Paknio ir Martyno 5 bažnyčiossudarytojo istorios pratarmė studijos. t. 1. lietuvių katalikų mokslo akademijos metraštis. t. 31. Jakulio straipsniai. Darius Baronas nagrinėja įvairialuomės pasauliečių bendruo- menės – stačiatikių Šv. Dvasios brolijos – kūrimosi ir sugyvenimo daugiatautėje ir polikonfesinėje Vilniaus miesto erdvėje aspektus. Arūnas Streikus atkreipia dėmesį į specifinės regioninės bendruomenės – Klaipėdos krašto katalikų – integracijos į Telšių vyskupiją procesą XX a. 3-iajame–4-ajame dešimtmečiais. Regina Laukaitytė apta- ria visų sovietų valdžios neįregistruotų religinių bendruomenių gyvavimą Lietuvoje pogrindžio sąlygomis 1944–1956 m. Žvilgsnio platumas, – tiesa, kitoks, – būdingas ir Vytauto Ališausko tekstui, kuriame lokalinis kuršių kulto reiškinys, sumišęs su istorijos pasakojimais apie didžiojo kunigaikščio Kęstučio žmoną, gvildenamas itin visapusiškai – iš istorijos, tekstologijos, mitologijos ir religijotyros perspektyvų. Apvaizdos šypsniu reikėtų laikyti faktą, kad dalis šio Bažnyčios istorijos studijų tomo tekstų visai neplanuotai atliepia 2013-aisiais minimas sukaktis – pra- dedamą minėti Žemaičių krikšto jubiliejų ir 150-ąsias 1863 m. sukilimo metines. Belieka tai priimti kaip paakinimą bendruomeniškumui, kuris neapsiriboja savojo cecho erdve ir atveria bendrystės su visuomene, tauta, Bažnyčia ir valstybe pojūtį. Liudas Jovaiša 6 EDITOR’S COMMENT The th5 volume of the Studies in Church History is dedicated to various historical aspects of former and present religious communities and groups (mainly Christian) in Lithuania. This motive was encouraged partly by realities of contemporary life – the crisis of community spirit, which appears to be the foundation for authentic Christian faith. Exhausted by the Soviet collectivism, Lithuanian society willingly gave in to temptation of selfish individualism. Certain groups of professionals were also affected by alienation. In this situation a good news comes from Lithuanian section of the International Commission for Comparative Church History (Commission Internationale d’Histoire Ecclésiastique Comparée), which resumed its activity in 2012 and thus opened a new perspective for uniting the sparse researchers of history of the Church and Christianity in Lithuania. This section was established during the years of national revival by the initiative of Jerzy Kłoczowski, but failed to develop its activity under the leadership of Dr. Juozas Tumelis. Hopefully, a couple of dozen researchers, gathered in a new community will manage not only monitor information about international events and conferences more successfully, but also will get to know each other more. This hope is symbolically embodied in the bibliography of historical research of Christianity in Lithuania of 2011–2012, arranged by Arūnas Streikus. Moreover, a response from Regina Laukaitytė to the study by Darius Petkūnas supplements a traditional monologue in the articles’ chapter and indicates a movement towards a dialogue. Maybe the next volume of the Studies in Church History will introduce a separate review chapter? In ten articles of this volume various aspects of life, identity and activity of religious communities and groups are being analyzed. Probably the better half of this volume is dedicated to clusters of clergy: Reinis Norkākls presents an unexplored diocesan clergy of Livonia-Courland, and Liudas Jovaiša publishes a prosopographical list of clergy of Samogitia diocese in the 1st half of the 16th century. Other articles present special groups of clergy. Wioletta Pawlikowska-Butterwick depicts a typical portrait of a member of Vilnius Chapter in the 2nd half of the 16th century, while Aldona Prašmantaitė introduces the clergy of Samogitian diocese after their exile to the exotic community of the Roman Catholic

The universal Church is aware of and grateful for the great spiritual wealth which the Lithuanian Catholic community has brought and still brings to the ecclesial communion and recognizes in its centuries-old witness of fidelity to Christ tire action of the Holy Spirit, who "by the power of the Gospel makes the Church grow, perpetually renews her, and leads her to perfect union with her Spouse ".(1) 2 As you know, in order to manifest this universal communion with you, on 28 June next, simultaneously with the national celebration in Vilnius, I shall preside at the tomb of the Apostle Peter at a solemn concelebration, during which I shall have the joy of beatifying a great son and Pastor of your people, Archbishop Jurgis Matulaitis.

The reason to take a closer look at the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is the fact that it has always been a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious city. This observation allows the author to assume that the use of books there could have been different than in other European cities of the time. To find possible answers to the question posed, the author traces the changes in production, distribution and reading of books in the city. The research is based on sev- eral sorts of sources, such as printed books, manuscripts and documents from Vilnius archives (mainly the municipal archive, the Catholic chapter, the castle court etc.). He was supported by contemporary studies about early modern Vilnius scriptoria and printing houses (Kawecka-Gryczowa, Topolska, Nikalaieu), bookbinders (Laucevičius), book writing (Ulčinaitė, Narbutienė, Narbutas) and the history of the city (Frick). At the beginning of the paper the author recalls the main facts about Vilnius in the 16th century. The city had increasingly grown in importance as a political, economical and cultural centre of the Jagiellonian monarchy. The central part, divided in four chronologically arranged chapters, focuses on several problems, among them: the beginnings of Cyrillic prints and Skaryna’s print- ing house, languages and alphabets of books (Latin, Ruthenian, Polish, Lithuanian, German, Hebrew, Yiddish and Arabic), book production, dissemination, storage and reading.

WHAT IS THE UNIVERSITY OF VILNIUS? It is a paradoxically simple question. Though it will not seem so simple if we ask another question — what is Vilnius? Today it is the capital of the Republic of Lithuania, a member state of the European Union. However, at the beginning of the 19th century, the epoch of great importance to us, it was turned into a provincial town of the Russian Empire. Prior to that, for a long time, it was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which existed in the 13th–18th century. In the 20th century, after the reestablishment of the Polish and Lithuanian states, it did not become the capital of Lithuania (the city of Kaunas became its provisional capital); Vilnius was incorporated into Poland and became a city of the Polish province. In 1939, on Stalin’s initiative, it was taken away from Poland and returned to Lithuania, at the same time annexing Lithuania to the Soviet Empire. All this has to be kept in mind if we want to understand the question what the University of Vilnius is. And what was it during the period between 1803 and 1832? 79 At first glance the answer seems simple — this is an institution founded by the Jesuits and Stephen Bathory in 1579.

    Belarusian Political Science Review, Volume 2, 2012–2013 ISSN 2029-8684 (online) ISSN 2029-8676 INSTITUTIONS AND COMMUNITIES: HISTORICAL DIMENSION Alieh Dziarnovič LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE IN THE GRAND DUCHY OF LITHUANIA: BETWEEN FUNCTION AND STATUS Introduction, or the Incident of 1529 At the very beginning of May 1529, on behalf of the High Court – “by or- der of His Majesty” – offi cials of the central and regional (Vilnius/Wilno/Viĺnia Voivodeship) administration of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania sent decki1 Vasiĺ Bialianin to the Eišiškės parish of Lida County (today in the Šalčininkai district of Vilnius County of the Republic of Lithuania). He was to interview witnesses on the spot over a disputed property case between a boyar of His Majesty Piotr Sumarok and Eišiškės subject Sieńka Ivaškavič. The judicial body, headed by the Marshal2 of His Majesty Maciej Vojciechavič Kločka, “ordered Sumarok and Sieńka Ivaškavič not to go to those witnesses beforehand, but join the decki”. Sumarok asked permission not to join the decki, but to stay in Vilnius. What a surprise it was for the decki when he met Sumarok on the road to Eišiškės “al- ready going back from witnesses”. The court offi cial asked the plaintiff : «“Sumarok, where are the witnesses?”, – and he pointed out the witnesses in a birchwood. Then, when the witnesses stood in front of me and wanted to confess, Sumarok started talking to them in Lithuanian (emphasis mine. – A.Dz.) and asked them: “For God’s sake do not betray me, and what I promised I will give you, and will not betray you”».

In this work I present a method for locating linked data to preserve which functions even when the URI the user wishes to preserve does not resolve (i.e. is broken/not RDF) and an application for monitoring and preserving the data. This work is based upon the principle of adapting ideas from hypermedia link integrity in order to apply them to the Semantic Web.
