Yet these do not reveal the whole story. Tadeusza Manteuffl a Polskiej Akademii Nauk Z dziejów luteranizmu w Łatgalii w tzw. czasach polskich (1561–1772)* Dzieje konfesji luterańskiej w dawnych Infl antach Polskich (łotewskiej Łat- galii) są zagadnieniem bardzo słabo rozpoznanym. Niewielkie zainteresowa- nie tą kwestią, niezwykle frapującą chociażby z racji położenia Łatgalii i jej funkcjonowania na pograniczu kulturowym, jest przede wszystkim efektem poważnego zdekompletowania bazy źródłowej i jej silnego rozproszenia. Niniejszy tekst ma na celu ukazanie w ogólnym zarysie losów łatgalskiego luteranizmu w okresie, w którym tzw. Infl anty Polskie należały do państwa polsko-litewskiego (1561–1772). Szczególny nacisk położono na relacje lute- ranów z katolikami, którzy w tzw. czasach polskich mieli w Łatgalii uprzy- wilejowaną pozycję. History of Lutheran confession in the former Polish Livonia (Latvian Latgale) is very poorly investigated. Minor interest in this matter, which is fascinating due to Latgale location and its functioning in the cultural borderland, is mainly the eff ect of a serious decomposition of the source base and its strong dispersion. Th is text is aimed at showing a general outline of the history of Latgale Lutheranism in a period, when the so-called Polish Livonia belonged to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1561–1772).
