May they remain unflinchingly loyal to the Truth, serene at heart but vigorous in action, and committed to steering Holy Mother Church into calmer, more fruitful waters. Norfolk, VA 2007 The Church at the Turning Points of History. Copyright © 2007 IHS Press. Preface, footnotes, typesetting, layout, and cover design copyright 2007 IHS Press. All rights reserved. The present edition of The Church at the Turning Points of History is based upon the English translation made by Monsignor Victor Day, Vicar General of Helena, and published in 1918 by Naegele Printing Co., Helena, Montana. The translation was made from the fifth French edi- tion of the work, L’Eglise aux tournants de l’histoire, published in Brussels in 1913 by Librairie Albert Dewit. The substance of the work is based upon a series of lectures given by the author to a Women’s University Extension in Antwerp, 1897–1899. The original author’s preface, which has been omitted in the present edition, explained that footnote citations were not provided for the facts cited, as most were presumed to be well known to readers, and the author begged that they “take his word” for the occasional facts that might be unfamiliar. -

THE BAROQUE PAPACY Ary Papal Court, the Roman Curia and the Papal State Were Constructed

Werte- Und Verfahrenswandel Bei Den Papstwahlen in Mittelalter Und Früher Neuzeit*
436-San Lorenzo in Lucina
(436/36) San Lorenzo in Lucina San Lorenzo in Lucina is a heavily restored 5th century parish and titular church and minor basilica, just west of the Corso in the rione Colonna. The dedication is to St Lawrence, the 3rd century Roman deacon and martyr. [1] History According to tradition, the church was built in the mid 4th century on the ruins of a house belonging to the Roman lady Lucina, who sheltered Pope St Marcellus (308-309) during Maxentius' persecution. Pope St Damasus was elected here in 366. [1] [2] [f] [m] Archaeological investigations under the church in the early 20th century revealed remains of Roman houses from the reign of Emperor Hadrian, including a fine black and white marble floor in a curvilinear pattern. An apartment complex or insula on top of these remains, which dates from the 3rd century. The palaeochristian church was revealed as having been built in turn within the ruins of this. [1] It was restored by Pope Benedict II in 685 and by Pope Adrian I in 780. There had to be another one in the middle of the 9th century after the Tiber flooded the area twice. After its destruction by Robert Guiscard and his Norman soldiers in 1084 it must have been left in a derelict condition for some years. Pope Paschal II ordered the church to be "rebuilt" in 1112, although much of the old fabric was kept. The old brick walls can still be seen in part on the outside; they can be recognized because the mortar-beds are as thick as the bricks. -
Abstract: With the intention of facing a world post-modernism, based on principles against the Church, Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) took back the philosophical and theological thoughts from St. Thomas of Aquinus by means of the Pope text Aeterni Patris Filius (1880). In order to explain such principles, several Academies were founded across the World with the name of the Doctor Angelicus. In Spain, two academies were created: one in Barcelona and the other one at Seville –named Sevillian Academy of St. Thomas of Aquinus, with a very short length (1880-1884). Palabras clave: León XIII (1878-1903), Tomismo, Aeterni Patris Filius, Sevila, Academia Hispalense de Santo Tomás de Aquino (1880-1884), cardenal Lluch y Garriga Key words: Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903); St. Thomas of Aquinus; Aeterni Patris Filius; Sevillian Academy of St. Thomas of Aquinus; Cardinal Lluch and Garriga. -

AGES Software Rio, WI USA Version 1.0 © 2000 2 Cle’opas (Kleo>pav, contr. for Kleo>patrov, of a renowned father), one of the two disciples who were going to Emmaus on the day of the resurrection, when Jesus himself drew near and talked with them (<422418>Luke 24:18), A.D. 29.. Eusebius and Jerome (Onomast. s.v. Ejmmaou>v, Emaus) make him (Klew>pav, Cleophas) a native of Emmaus. It is a question whether this Cleopas is to be considered as identical with the CLEOPHAS SEE CLEOPHAS (q.v.), or rather Clopas of <431925>John 19:25, or the ALPHESUS SEE ALPHESUS (q.v.) of <401003>Matthew 10:3, etc. Their identity was assumed by the later fathers and Church historians (Thiess, Comment. 2, 230 sq.). But Eusebius (H. E. 3. 11) writes the name of Alphseus, Joseph’s brother, Clopas, not Cleopas; and Chrysostom and Theodoret, on the Epistle to the Galatians, call James the Just the son of Clopas. Besides this, Clopas, or Alphaeus, is an Aramaic name, whereas Cleopas is apparently Greek. Again, as we find the wife and children of Clopas constantly with the family of Joseph at the time of our Lord’s ministry, it is probable that he himself was dead before that time. -
