L’associazione “…è una Lega di zelo e di preghiere in unione al S. Cuore di Gesù. Si chiama Apostolato perché ha come scopo il fare di tutti i cristiani veri apostoli, con eccitare dovunque l’ardore per la gloria divina e per la salvezza delle anime. E’ l’Apostolato della preghiera perché la Preghiera è il principale mezzo cui essa adopera […]; mezzo in certo qual modo universale, che racchiude, oltre la preghiera propriamente detta, tutte le opere e tutte le sofferenze offerte al S. Cuore allo scopo di supplica. E’ la lega del Cuore di Gesù, perché gli Ascritti si uniscono per mezzo di una quotidiana offerta a quel Cuore divino […]; e proprio in questa consecrazione ovvero offerta della giornata alle intenzioni del Cuore di Gesù consiste la prima ed essenziale tra le altre eccellenti pratiche in uso presso gli Ascritti stessi.”.1 Già nel 1846 l’associazione ottenne la protezione di mons. Pierre–Marie–Joseph Darcimoles, vescovo di Le Puy–en–Velay, ma fu con il suo successore mons. Joseph–Auguste–Victorin Morlhon che fu data al pio sodalizio un ordinamento canonico.2 Il pontefice Pio IX nell’agosto 1849 concesse agli ascritti all’Apostolato della preghiera la facoltà di lucrare varie indulgenze3, alle quali se ne sarebbero aggiunte molte altre a partire dal gennaio 1850. Il 1 dicembre 1849 P. Maxime de Bussy SJ, anch’egli membro dell’equipe formativa del seminario Valsense della Provincia Lugdunensis, chiese ed ottenne da mons. Morlhon l’approvazione diocesana della Association du Sacré–Cœur de Jésus eretta “…in oratorio congregationis virorum et iuvenorum…”, arricchita di numerose indulgenze con breve pontificio del 21 gennaio 1850.4 L’Apostolato della preghiera nacque originariamente come proposta di spiritualità apostolica per gli scolastici della Compagnia di Gesù ma ebbe presto ampia diffusione, soprattutto dalla fine del 1861: nel novembre di quell’anno, infatti, P. Gautrelet, già rettore della Domus Tertiae Probationis di Lione (1855–57) e preposito della Provincia Lugdunensis (1857–61), fu inviato dal nuovo 1 H. I provinciale presso la residenza di Algeri come superiore della Missio in Africa. Come nuovo direttore dell’Apostolato della preghiera in sostituzione di P. Gautrelet fu nominato P. Henri Ramière SJ, che già dal 1859 affiancava P. Gautrelet nella direzione dell’opera.5 Con P. Ramière l’Apostolato conobbe uno slancio ed una diffusione fino ad allora sconosciuto: il tramite di questa intensa fase di attività fu Le Messager du Sacré–Coeur de Jésus: bulletin mensuel de l'Apostolat de la prière, edito a partire dal 1861, al quale dal 1876 si affiancò Le Petit messager du Coeur de Marie – Supplément au Messager du Sacré–Coeur de Jésus. Essi contribuirono in maniera determinante alla diffusione dell’Apostolato della preghiera a livello mondiale, che iniziò ad acquisire una dimensione globale: alla diffusione capillare su tutto il continente europeo, dall’ultimo quarto dell’Ottocento centri locali dell’associazione risultano attivi in molti altri paesi, dall’Algeria alla Martinica, dalla Colombia al Senegal, dall’India all’Egitto, dal Myanmar al Nord America ed all’Australia, e di lì a qualche tempo anche in Cina. In merito all’ordinamento dell’associazione, il più antico statuto rinvenuto tra la documentazione è quello approvato e promulgato da mons. Pierre Marc Le Breton, successore di mons. Morlhon: il documento,6 privo di data, è collocabile tra il settembre 1863, data di inizio dell’episcopato di mons. Le Breton, ed il 12 settembre 1866, data del decreto di approvazione del successivo statuto in nove articoli da parte della Congregazione dei vescovi e regolari. Il numero crescente di associati, raccolti in centri locali a livello parrocchiale, direzioni diocesane e segretariati nazionali coordinati dalla direzione generale, comportò una organizzazione complessa e ramificata. Allo statuto del 12 settembre 1866, integrato e parzialmente modificato già con decreto della suddetta Congregazione del 24 maggio 1867,7 seguirono infatti gli statuti approvati con decreto del 28 maggio 1879,8 una proposta di modifica del 1890,9 gli statuti approvati con decreto dell’11 luglio 189610 e quelli 5 Lugdun. 1–XX, index. 6 AdP, Archives de l'enregistrement constitut. et canonique. Auguste Drive SJ, direttore generale delegato dell’opera, inerenti al nuovo statuto, ed in particolare: natura giuridica, competenze ed organizzazione dell’associazione; rapporti con l'Arciconfraternita Romana del Sacro Cuore di Gesù, l'Opera della Comunione riparatrice, la Milice du Pape ed il Rosaire Vivant; ruolo degli zelatori e delle zelatrici; pubblicazione del Messager du Coeur de Jésus; sede della direzione generale; competenze del direttore generale II dell’aprile 1925.11 I rapporti con la Santa Sede iniziarono ad intensificarsi, date le dimensioni che l’opera iniziò ad assumere, come dimostra anche la presenza documentata del cardinale protettore nella persona prima del card. Alessandro Franchi (1874–1878) e poi del card. Giovanni Simeoni (1874–1892), prefetti della Congregazione de Propaganda Fide. L’associazione aveva una struttura piramidale alla cui base vi erano i centri locali, sia parrocchiali che non parrocchiali, coordinati dalle direzioni diocesane ed al livello superiore dai segretariati nazionali, le cui attività erano dirette dalla direzione generale. Nel 1868 la sede della direzione generale dell’Apostolato della preghiera fu trasferita da Le Puy–en–Velay a Toulouse12 e nel 1904 dalla città francese a Tournai in Belgio, seguendo le sorti della Residentia Tolosana dispersa: non va dimenticato, infatti, che fin dal 1880 i Gesuiti erano stati espulsi dal territorio della Terza Repubblica francese. La direzione generale dell’Apostolato tornò a Toulouse soltanto nel 191413, dove rimase fino a quando, precisamente nel luglio 1925, il Preposito generale P. Włodzimierz Ledóchowski SJ ne dispose il trasferimento a Roma presso la nuova ed attuale sede presso la Curia generalizia della Compagnia di Gesù,14 trasferimento effettivamente avvenuto il 26 aprile 1927.15 L’intervento archivistico sul fondo Apostolato della Preghiera è stato avviato nel novembre 2016 e si è concluso nel luglio 2017, durante la direzione dell’ARSI di Brian Mac Cuarta SJ. Oggetto dell’intervento è stata la sezione antica del fondo Apostolato della preghiera, la cui consistenza totale ammonta a circa 65 metri lineari di documentazione. Proprio in considerazione della notevole consistenza totale del fondo si è deciso, dopo aver effettuato un primo rilievo e censimento della documentazione, aver individuato i nuclei documentari che lo compongono ed aver studiato nei dettagli la fattibilità dell’operazione, di suddividere il lavoro in più tranche al fine di permettere in tempi relativamente brevi la consultazione almeno del nucleo documentario più antico senza dover attendere necessariamente il termine dei lavori su tutto il fondo, il che avrebbe escluso dalla dell'Apostolato e della Sacra Congregazione dei vescovi e regolari in caso di controversie con gli Ordinari diocesani; opera di P. Jean-Marie Seillan, dans un article récent sur « Huysmans et les censeurs1 », fait le point, à partir de ces matériaux, sur les menaces de censure qui pèsent sur l’auteur dans un chapitre intitulé « Huysmans censuré ? La Cathédrale et l’Index2 ». Pierre Jourde et Brigitte Cabirol avaient quant à eux étudié l’intervention de la princesse Bibesco, le rôle joué par Mme de Sainte-Foix, les réactions de Cécile Bruyère, dans leur édition de la « Correspondance de Huysmans et de la princesse Jeanne Bibesco, Mère Bénie de Jésus », publiée dans notre Bulletin et précédée d’une riche présentation3.

Il conclave del 1846 venne convocato a seguito della morte del papa Gregorio XVI, avvenuta a Roma il 1º giugno dello stesso anno. Si svolse, per l'ultima volta, al Palazzo del Quirinale dal 14 al 16 giugno, e, dopo quattro scrutini, venne eletto papa il cardinale Giovanni Maria Mastai Ferretti, vescovo di Imola, che assunse il nome di Pio IX. L'elezione venne annunciata dal cardinale protodiacono Tommaso Riario Sforza. I cardinali elettori Il collegio cardinalizio[1], alla morte di Gregorio XVI, era composto da 62 cardinali, più 6 in pectore che non furono però mai proclamati. Di questi 62, 2 cardinali erano stati nominati da Pio VII, 7 da Leone XII, e gli altri 53 da Gregorio XVI. Dei 62 cardinali solo 8 erano stranieri, e precisamente: Schwarzenberg, arcivescovo di Salisburgo, Gaisruck di Milano (a quei tempi città imperiale), De Bonald di Lione, Bernet di Aix, Cienfuegos di Siviglia, Carvalho di Lisbona, Sterckx di Malines, De La Tour d'Auvergne, vescovo di Arras. Nessuno di questi partecipò al conclave. Gli altri 54 cardinali erano tutti italiani, e di questi 50 presero parte all'elezione: mancavano i cardinali Villadicani Arcivescovo di Messina, Giacomo Monico Patriarca di Venezia, Ignazio Cadolino, Arcivescovo di Ferrara e Placido Maria Tadini Arcivescovo di Genova.

Yocum This dissertation considers a spectrum of five distinct approaches that mid-twentieth century neo-Thomist Catholic thinkers utilized when engaging with the tradition of modern scientific psychology: a critical approach, a reformulation approach, a synthetic approach, a particular [Jungian] approach, and a personalist approach. This work argues that mid-twentieth century neo-Thomists were essentially united in their concerns about the metaphysical principles of many modern psychologists as well as in their worries that these same modern psychologists had a tendency to overlook the transcendent dimension of human existence. This work shows that the first four neo-Thomist thinkers failed to bring the traditions of neo-Thomism and modern psychology together to the extent that they suggested purely theoretical ways of reconciling them.

LAURENCE HIGH SCHOOL SPRING 2020 2020 Annual Report Pre-Proof Highlighting Illinois State Scholars Alumni Updates Letter from the President Celebrating growth in our school community Dear Friends of St. Laurence, St. Laurence is proud of its most recent accomplishments. We live our mission and provide a Catholic education to our students. Most importantly, we embrace our values of compassion, courage, excellence and community. How do we do this? During a time of transformation, there is one constant – growth. After another successful entrance exam, St. Laurence is on track to have sustainable growth by accepting 250 incoming freshmen per year. In addition, since we stand up for what is right, we continue to minimize tuition cost increases and remain one of the most valuable Catholic high schools within the Archdiocese – nearly $2,000 more affordable than any of our peer institutions. Transformation requires courageous leaders. These leaders rallied the community and remained brave when confronted with uncertainty. I want to thank our entire community as we finish our third year of a successful co-educational transition. In the next two years, we will grow to over 900 students with over 40% of them being female! As we pursue excellence in all endeavors, our academic growth is off the charts! Our teachers and students embrace a growth mindset, which leads to achievement. Academic programs are producing students that improve an average of 15 national percentile points from entrance exam to ACT. In 2021, we will become one of three Catholic high schools in Illinois to be an International Baccalaureate World School upon completing our candidacy phase.

Against emerging neo-Scholasticism, he supported the growing awareness of the need for historical context and to see theo- logical doctrines in their development over time. He was an influential theologian at the First Vatican Council. Created cardinal by Pope Pius ix in 1876, he engaged in the work of the Roman Curia, for example against the German Kulturkampf and for the Third Plenary Council of the Catholic Church in the usa (Baltimore, 1884). This article provides an overview of Franzelin’s biography and analyzes his contributions to theol- ogy and church politics. Initially at 10 Pieracki Street4. Then, it was moved to a different address, namely the 1 Kupiecka Street. The newspaper cost 10 grosz, the price did not change, and its layout underwent slight modifications. The first mention of the raised topic appeared on the «Courier’s» pages on March 1, 1939. In an article entitled «The conclave deliberations have begun»4 citing on the Vatican statements of 28 February 1939, the readers were informed of the general meeting of cardinals planned for the following day, during which it was agreed to elect a new pope within 4 – 5 days.
