Take the B 3 slip road to Baden-Baden / Ottersweier / Achern, and then turn BÜHL right on the B 3 to Ottersweier / Achern. Continue on the B 3 (new), turn left on the K 3749, and follow the signs to “Sportzentrum”. (From the Bühl exit there are 6 km in total to the Schwarzwaldbad.) ACHERN 5 B 3 (old) | Coming from Baden-Baden or Achern, take the B 3 (old) until you reach the Hauptstraße in Bühl (L 84). On the south outs- KEHL kirts of the city (“Jägerkreisel”), take the roundabout exit to Ober- STRASBOURG weier, and follow the signs to “Sportzentrum”. Free parking is directly at the Schwarzwaldbad. OFFENBURG BY BUS AND RAIL By rail | Bühl is a railway station on the Rhine Valley line between Frankfurt and Basel. The nearest ICE and IC stop is Baden-Baden (15 km). From there, the RE to Konstanz will take you directly to RHINE Bühl without stopping. From the south, the RE from Offenburg to LAHR Karlsruhe Hbf. will take you to Bühl. Suburban rail | The Stadtbahn S 4 or S 32 runs between Achern and Karlsruhe. It stops at Bühl once an hour. Bus | The Bühl Citylinie bus services 272 and 275 leave the central bus station ZOB next to the railway station and stop at “Arndtstraße/Berliner Straße”. From there, there is a walk of about 2 minutes along the length of the stadium to the Schwarz- waldbad. On 18th January 2007, a hurricane by the name Kyrill caused heavy damage in Northern Germany – dropped trees, closed roads, interrupted railroad lines and much more. I had an evening appoint- ment in Offenburg that day and drove there in the morning to avoid being on the road when the storm would hit. So what does a genealogist do with an empty afternoon? He goes to the archives. So did I and started to abstract the emi- grants listed in the Offenburg Intelligencer. Anyway, it took six more years to complete the evaluation of the various newspapers which were issued in the Ortenau region (whose main town is Offenburg). The newspaper published in Offenburg under various titles turned out a real bonanza for finding emigrants from that area.

AST fährt Sie auf Wunsch in Lahr, Friesenheim, Kippenheim, Mahlberg, Meißenheim, Schwanau, Schuttertal und Seelbach bis vor die Haustür. AST verkehrt zu den nachstehenden Abfahrtszeiten und an allen öffentlichen Bushaltestellen in der Stadt Lahr und den teilnehmenden Gemeinden. HINWEIS: Bei bestehenden Busverbindungen innerhalb einer halben Stunde erfolgt kein Anruf-Sammel-Taxi - Verkehr. Die Beförderung von Rollstuhlfahrern ist im Rahmen des AST nicht im Umfang des regulären Linienverkehrs möglich. Die Schutter durchfließt, nach dem Austritt aus dem Schuttertal, das Stadtgebiet von Lahr und tritt dann als Wiesenfluss in die Rheinebene. Der Oberlauf der Schutter Durch die steilen Gefällsverhältnisse im Gebirgsbereich der Schutter sind die Abflüsse bei Niederschlägen sehr hoch und sehr schnell und führten in den Tälern und besonders im Stadtbereich von Lahr sehr oft zu Hochwasserproblemen. Wegen dieser oft wiederkehrenden überörtlichen Hochwässer wurde die Schutter im Oberlauf als Gewässer I. Ordnung, also als Landesgewässer, eingestuft. Bereits in den 30er Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts wurde vom Land der Abflussquerschnitt der Schutter im Stadtbereich Lahr ausgebaut und westlich des Stadtgebiets wurde ab Lahr-Dinglingen in den Jahren 1936 bis 1938 ein ganz neuer, 12 km langer, Kanal, von der Heiligenschleuse bis zum Rhein, mit beidseitigen Hochwasserdämmen, gebaut. Dieser Entlastungskanal, der „Schutterentlastungs- kanal“, mündet westlich von Allmannsweier in den Rhein. Im Schutterentlastungskanal
