Sumber daya kebudayaan yang dimiliki seperti bahasa, sastra, dan aksara daerah, kesenian, kepurbakalaan, kesejarahan, nilai tradisional, dan museum, masih tumbuh dan berkembang serta keberadaannya dapat diandalkan untuk pembangunan jati diri bangsa. Pemerintah menempatkan kepariwisataan menjadi salah satu sektor strategis sebagai salah satu sumber pendapatan asli daerah yang potensial. Berbagai upaya telah banyak dilakukan pemerintah daerah untuk meningkatkan sektor kepariwisataan terhadap pembangunan Jawa Barat secara keseluruhan. Dimulai dari upaya untuk meningkatkan jumlah dan lama kunjungan wisatawan, pelayanan di bidang jasa kepariwisataan, kerja sama dengan pihak luar negeri, promosi, hingga meningkatkan daya tarik kepariwisataan daerah. Dalam strategi pembangunan kepariwisataan khususnya dalam upaya meningkatkan daya tarik, sektor kebudayaan menjadi unsur andalan yang kemudian sangat mempengaruhi daya beli suatu daerah. Hal ini menempatkan kebudayaan sebagai sektor potensial bagi pengembangan kepariwisataan sehingga dapat berperan menjadi pendukung dan mitra utama kepariwisataan.     Chapter I Introduction 1.1 Background of the Study Indonesia is a country that blessed with the gift of extraordinary natural beauty by the God. It has natural resources, and of course must be utilized properly to help improve the country's economy. One of them is by increasing the tourism sector. There a a few countries that was success with the tourism such as Iceland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Qatar, and Thailand. The impact of the success of the tourism industry is to make the economy in the country better because it could give the tax revenue from hotels, restaurants, and airports. Before discussing the benefits of the tourism further, it would be nice to know what tourism is. The definition of tourism itself according to United Nation’s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) defined, as tourism comprises the activities of persons traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes. According to definition above, if many people come and visit Indonesia we would have tax revenues from the tourism sector such as mentioned it before. It can be used to advance National development and to prosperity the country. The tourism industry in Indonesia continues to progress every year, recorded starting from the last 2015, foreign exchange earnings from the tourism sector reached 12.23 billion US dollar equivalent to 169 trillion rupiah, the data came from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, and of course, this causes a large contribution of foreign exchange to the country.

This study takes the case of Bandung, Indonesia, which has been known for its food and scenery. Bandung also has several well-known historical sites and buildings. Komunitas Aleut explores other unpublicized Bandung heritage to study about those sites and buildings further. Design/methodology/approach – This paper is based on a case study of the Komunitas Aleut community and its relationship with history-based tourism and city branding. This paper provides brief information about Komunitas Aleut and its programs and theoretically explores history-based tourism and city branding. This paper explains the trend shifting in Bandung’s tourism that is associated with the program of Komunitas Aleut, which brought history issues in its activity. Findings – Komunitas Aleut has found a role for historical sites that brand the city. Value – The paper explores themes that are considered strengths of Bandung: strong community, heritage, and programs initiated by the community.
