The aim of all capitals of culture is to illustrate the variation and distinctiveness of the cities of Europe, as well as demonstrating all the things that unite us. With our strong local culture and the attention it has attracted in Europe, we have achieved that aim. Our year as European Capital of Culture has placed Umeå and the North on the world map in a quite unique way. When the foreign media write about Sweden as a place to visit, the two things they mention the most are the ABBA Museum and Umeå as the European Capital of Culture.
