Another highlight is the Merano Flower Festival (April 23 to 25, 2021) with its flower-based installations and topiary in the town center, with entertaining work- shops for kids and adults. 05/04/2021 124TH TRADITIONAL HAFLINGER HORSE RACES AND PROCESSION Meran town center & Meran Racecourse This event, held on Easter Monday, marks the opening of the annual racing season at the Meran Racecourse. In the morning, there is a procession through town center of many colorful floats accompanied by brass bands in local costumes, while in the afternoon local and international jockeys compete on the track. It starts and finishes on Freiheitsstraße in Meran. Culinary delights are sold (from May 1) at the Marathon Festival’s stalls on the Passer Promenade. Taking place with the half marathon will be “run4fun”, a non-competitive event for amateur runners, power walkers and Nordic walkers. 25 – 26/09/2021 82ND MERAN SOUTH TYROL GRAND PRIX Meran Racecourse The Meran South Tyrol Grand Prix is one of Europe’s prime hurdle races. The horse- racing weekend also comprises other competitions of international importance, such as the Price of Nations (which is linked to the Crystal Cup) on September 25, before the 82nd Meran South Tyrol Grand Prix is held on September 26. Until January 17, 2021 STUDIO OTHER SPACES. THE DESIGN OF COLLABORATION Founded in Berlin in 2014 by artist Olafur Eliasson and architect Sebastian Behmann, Studio Other Spaces combines art and architecture through experimental and inter- disciplinary work, thus pushing the boundaries of architecture. With this first exhibition for Kunst Meran/Merano Arte, SOS provides an in-depth look into the research, planning and carrying out of recent projects like the Fjordenhus in Vejle/Denmark or the Meles Zenawi Memorial Park in Addis Ababa. At the same time, SOS adopts a new approach to holding an architecture exhibition: How are form-finding processes, research, digital innovations and the exchange between the parties involved–all integral parts of SOS’s trademark projects–to be shown? For the exhibition, SOS has striven to develop a new, sustainable and highly contemporary form of presentation of its current projects.

COSÌ IL DISEGNO SA DOVE ATTERRARE The exhibition at Kunst Meran/Merano Arte offers a first-ever insight into the rich world of the drawings of Lisa Ponti (1922-2019), artist, author and long-time editor of Domus magazine. Although she had always drawn, Lisa Ponti did not hold her first solo exhibition until 1992, when she was 70. Immediacy and directness–applied to the paper in decisive, dynamic strokes–are what distinguish her works, as well as her wonderful poetry, fine humor and restrained elegance. Ponti’s drawings were done exclusively on sheets of A4 paper. She combines a simple lead or colored pencil with watercolors, with mini- mal collages, or she experiments with the colorings of burnt paper. Lisa Ponti’s life was marked by her many activities. She worked with her father, the famous architect and designer Gio Ponti, from 1940 to 1979, first in the editorial office of Stile and later as editor-in-chief of Domus, also directing the magazine’s art pages until 1986. She authored countless writings and interviews on art, architecture and design, and wrote several children’s books.
February 6 – June 13, 2021 CULTURE IN MOVEMENT – MERAN 1965-1990 Exhibition and catalogue Kunst Meran/Merano Arte has the aim of researching and documenting the cultural history of the country, in particular of the spa town of Meran, since 1945. In 2012, an exhibition took place and the first volume Prospectives of the future Merano 1945- 1965 was published. In 2021, the period from 1965 to 1990 will be documented with an exhibition and a catalogue. The project invites to reflect about prevailing circumstances, about political and cultural conflicts, about the social changes and many active people in the cultural field who have paved the way for today’s liberal society.

In the garden, the kitchen, at festivals or in the recreatio- nal field, the apron is not outdated. In many ways, it still has a strong personal and emotional meaning for the wearer. Younger and older women, men and children own aprons. They have different purposes and are donned to protect one’s clothes, as part of a work uniform or as a decoration.
