Introduction In this document you can find the options available for the travel from Lisbon Airport until Coimbra. You can find two options available to this course: transportation by train, by bus and by car. You can make the course from the airport to the bus/train station at Lisbon by bus or subway. In case you want to use other services you have Taxi, Uber and Cabify services available. We provide you in the exact addresses of the important points and the fastest ways to you to get to the important points and have a safe and nice trip until Coimbra. 3 2. Bus For the Lisbon-Coimbra course by bus you have Sete Rios — Bus Station available at Lisbon that allows you to take the route to Coimbra. You should expect the journey to take approximately 2 hours. Figure 1. Sete-Rios — Coimbra 4 2.1. Airport - Sete Rios Once you are at the Airport you can make the course to Sete Rios by bus. You should find the bus stations at the airport exit, if you can’t find it, use the info points at the airport, they will help you. According to your luggage you have the following solutions: If you have a luggage with a maximum size of 55x40x20cm you can use the regular service and take the 731 bus. This bus is available every 15 minutes between 5:30am and 9:30pm. You should expect the journey to take approximately 30 minutes. Carris: http://www.carris.pt/en/bus/731/descendente If you have a luggage larger than 55x40x20cm you have to take the Aerobus number 2 to Sete Rios. This aerobus is available every 20 minutes between 7:40am and 10:45pm. Aerobus: https://www.aerobus.pt Figure 2. Airport — Sete Rios 5 2.2. Sete Rios — Coimbra Once you arrive to Sete Rios you have to take the express bus to Coimbra. There are several transports during the day. In case you want to Bus purchase the ticket in advance and check the timetables you can do it online through the company’s websites listed below. Rede Expressos: http://www.rede-expressos.pt/en/ You should arrive at Coimbra Station: Rede Expressos de Coimbra As you indicate us in your travel plan, we are waiting for you at the point of arrival: Figure 3. Rede Expressos Coimbra 6 2.3. Transfer Bus Arrangement If you want transportation for more than 10 people an option could be the transfer bus arrangement. With this transfer service you will have a private bus at the time you intend to make the transportation from Lisbon Airport to Coimbra and from Coimbra to Lisbon Airport. For this service contact: [email protected] 7 3. Train 3.1. Airport – Gare do Oriente 3.1.1. By Bus Once you are at the airport you can make the trip to Gare do Oriente by Bus. The bus number 744 makes this course every 7 minutes with an average duration of 10 minutes (image 4). You should find the bus stations at the airport exit, if you can’t find it, use the info points at the airport, they will help you. 3.1.2. By Subway The Lisbon Airport has a Metro (subway) station with a direct line (red line) to Gare do Oriente. Take the subway, the red line, is the only available. Left the subway at the third station – Oriente (image 4). Figure 4. Red: Subway; Grey: Bus 8 3.2. Gare do Oriente – Coimbra Once you arrive to Gare do Oriente you have to take the train to Coimbra, there are several trains with the course to Coimbra. You have 2 train options available: Intercidades and Alfa Pendular. The differences between the 2 options are related with the confort and the travel time. In case you want to purchase the ticket in advance, check the timetables and realise the Train 10 differences between the 2 options you can do it online through the company website: Comboios de Portugal: https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/pt/en If you are travelling by train (Intercidades, Regional or Inter- Regional) to Coimbra (from any other point of Portugal) you can benefit from 30% off on your trip. See below the terms to have this discount. - The proof that you are entitled to the discount is shown at the time you buy the train ticket and on board to the ticket inspector, upon presenting the proof of participation in the European Universities Games; - Failing to present the ticket in our sales points or on board entails the payment of the full price difference; - The change of dates implies that the customer pays the full ticket difference; - These tickets cannot be used together with any other discounts or special offers; - It is only possible to revalidate the ticket for the period during which the discount is valid, in accordance with the regulations; - The tickets can be refunded under the conditions in force in CP; - This special offer will be valid between the 11th and 30th of July 2018 for 9 participants and between the 7th and 30th of July for volunteers. There are two railway stations in Coimbra: Coimbra-A – Estação Nova “The New Station” and Coimbra-B – Estação Velha, “The Old Station”. All trains stop at Coimbra-B. You should exit at Coimbra-B. ATTENTION: On the panels at the train station, your train is probably part of a larger course so it will appear as Porto or Braga as destination. Pay attention to don’t take the wrong train and miss the correct exit: Coimbra-B. As you indicate us in your travel plan, we are waiting for you at the point of arrival. Figure 5. Gare do Oriente — Coimbra 10 4. Car 4.1. Coimbra Airport Shuttle Coimbra Airport Shuttle operates a door-to-door shared transfer between the Center of Portugal and both Lisbon and Oporto airports. (If there is a long wait for the Regional train then the faster Oporto National train to Santarem may be better) Both journeys are approximately 40 minutes. (Note - Reguengo Station is nearer to Marchanta) 2. If you arrive before 8pm at Oriente, you can purchase a ticket at the Ticket Offices. If you arrive after 8pm, you can purchase the ticket on the train from the Conductor. 3. Ask for the platform number and time of departure for your train. Staffwill help you. 4.     HOW TO REACH COIMBRA Coimbra is approximately 200 km north of Lisbon and 100 km south of Porto. Lisbon and Porto have international airports. Coimbra is connected to both cities by fast trains, bus and highway. Arriving at Oporto airport Porto is served by Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO). Several companies (including low cost) fly to Porto, like Aigle Azur, Air Berlin, Air France, Brussels Airlines, Clickair, Easyjet, Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Sata International or TAP Air Portugal. 1. The best way to leave the airport is using the Metro (follow the sign). maximum waiting time at the airport is 20 minutes (departures every :18, :40 and :58 minute, working days; :02, :21 and :41 minute, Saturdays and Sundays). They are located at Level 0 in the arrival-area and are open from 07:00am to 00:00am (every day).
