Getting the Metro from Lisbon Airport to Oriente Station 1. Exit the Arrivals area and turn right following the signs for the Metro and Exit 2. Exit the airport at the Metro exit and turn right 3. Buy a ticket for the Metro at the ticket machine for Gare do Oriente (€1-40). You will also need to buy a Viva Viagem card costing €0.50. (Staffare on hand to assist you) 4. Take the Red line (Aeroporto - Saldanha line) to Gare do Oriente (3 stops from Lisbon Airport - approximately 10 minutes) 5. When you get offthe Metro at Gare do Oriente, turn right and follow the signs into the main terminal at the train station. Take stairs or escalatoors to one level below the top to find the Ticket Offices. The Train from Oriente to Reguengo-V Pedra Pontevel (or Santarem) 1. The best train to get is the Tomar Regional train to Reguengo (full name Reguengo-V Pedra Pontevel) which runs at least every hour, except om Sunday. (If there is a long wait for the Regional train then the faster Oporto National train to Santarem may be better) Both journeys are approximately 40 minutes. (Note - Reguengo Station is nearer to Marchanta) 2. If you arrive before 8pm at Oriente, you can purchase a ticket at the Ticket Offices. If you arrive after 8pm, you can purchase the ticket on the train from the Conductor. 3. Ask for the platform number and time of departure for your train. Staffwill help you. 4. Impacto da construção ferroviária sobre a cidade de Lisboa Magda Pinheiro- CEHCP-ISCTE Em 1856, quando o primeiro troço de caminho de ferro é inaugurado em Portugal, do plano de construção de estradas de 1842/1843 apenas algumas centenas de quilómetros estavam concluídas. No entanto Lisboa estava situada na foz do maior rio navegável do País e, como mais importante porto nacional, estava ligada por barco a vapor à sua segunda maior cidade, o Porto. Ao Norte Viana do Castelo, no centro Figueira Foz, ao Sul Setúbal e os vários portos do Algarve punham a capital em contacto com o litoral e com as zonas servidas por transportes fluviais. Estas circunstâncias geográficas explicam em parte que os primeiros projectos de construção ferroviária tivessem por objectivo uma ligação com a fronteira de Espanha. Ao analisar a rede ferroviária portuguesa é-se inevitavelmente levado a concluir que a sua construção contribuiu, a partir dos anos sessenta do século XIX, para aumentar o fosso entre a velocidade de crescimento demográfico do País e a da sua capital1. A rede ferroviária, construída após 1853, tem o seu ponto de partida em Lisboa e em menor medida no Porto, desenvolvendo-se por ramificação. Esta forma arborescente facilita as trocas entre Lisboa e os diversos pontos do interior ao mesmo tempo que mantém as dificuldades de comunicação entre as diversas zonas situadas longe da plataforma costeira. Em termos de crescimento económico poder-se-à ainda considerar relevante o facto de, em 1897, o preço da condução das mercadorias e passageiros desde as sedes de concelho até às estações ferroviárias ser ainda muito elevado, exprimindo a baixa densidade de caminhos de ferro e a permanência de um défice na construção de estradas2 . -

How to Reach Coimbra
HOW TO REACH COIMBRA Coimbra is approximately 200 km north of Lisbon and 100 km south of Porto. Lisbon and Porto have international airports. Coimbra is connected to both cities by fast trains, bus and highway. Arriving at Oporto airport Porto is served by Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO). Several companies (including low cost) fly to Porto, like Aigle Azur, Air Berlin, Air France, Brussels Airlines, Clickair, Easyjet, Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Sata International or TAP Air Portugal. 1. The best way to leave the airport is using the Metro (follow the sign). maximum waiting time at the airport is 20 minutes (departures every :18, :40 and :58 minute, working days; :02, :21 and :41 minute, Saturdays and Sundays). Ticket type is a Z2, costing around 2 €. The trip takes about 37 minutes. You should step out at Campanhã station (Estação de Campanhã). 2.
