It was not until 1909 that the game became codified and organised, the first 18-hole golf course was built and a golf club was founded in Tatranská Lomnica. As historical sources state, the golf course was designed by the civil engineer Dezső Lauber. The course was built on the premises of Sándor Nákó and took 4 months to build. The construction was supervised by R. Williams, an English colonel and a military attaché. The cost was borne by three aristocrats: Count Gejza Zichy Lipót, Count István Széchényi, and Baron Miklós Vécsey. The sets of golf club used in the first tournament were ordered from England. The first tournament started on Wednesday, 11 August 1909. It is interesting to note that since the game’s very beginnings in Slova- kia, women have enjoyed playing golf just as much as men.
