Chairman’s Message It is with great joy and appreciation that I see the vibrant growth of Deshpande RUDSETI, engaged in social service. This Institute mainly focuses and functions in liberating the people from the bondage of poverty through various income generating activities, either through self employment or wage employment. Rural Development is the hardcore activity of the Institute where the empowerment of rural women is taken care by promoting self help groups and linking them to banks. The accomplishments highlighted herein give a clear picture of the relentless and selfless services undertaken by D-RUDSETI towards the poor and the needy. I am happy to learn that the Institute is very particular to reach out to all sections of the society. Our call in the present challenging environment of inflation, unemployment and poverty is to recommit ourselves to reach out to more and more unemployed youth and under privileged women of the society in the years to come. All the best for each and every one who is committed to this noble cause. Sri R.V. Deshpande Chairman Preface Deshpande RUDSETI works with downtrodden and vulnerable community of the society with the growing realization that a genuine development can be brought about only when the members of the community are actively involved in shaping their own future by becoming responsible to themselves. The formation and training of Self Help Groups are given topmost priority by the Institute as part of rural development activities. Before intervention of the Institute, most of the vulnerable group especially women and their family members were under the mercy of local money lenders and landlords. Our intervention by way of promoting women SHG's has released them from the clutches of money lenders. The Institute organised various awareness camps, and workshops on capacity building to empower the underprivileged in rural area. These activities helped the SHG members to become aware of their rights in their family and in the society also. Now these people have easy access to finance at affordable cost and are earning their livelihood. They have got a say in the decision making process in their family in particular and society in general. The main objective of forming SHGs is to give special impetus to the empowerment of rural women. It creates an environment for social change, self confidence and making them self reliant. It enhances financial stability in rural women by undertaking income generation activities, thereby contributing to poverty alleviation. The Institute has laid more emphasis on formation of new SHGs, and strengthening of existing SHGs. Institute has formed 1181 SHGs enrolling 14498 members in Mundgod, Dandeli, Joida and Haliyal area. The total savings of these groups crossed Rs. 462.93 Lakhs and their credit Rs. 702.87 Lakhs. Institute conducts different trainings to train SHG members.
