October - 2018

CLERGY: Fr. Cosmas Halekakis Our Patron Saint Demetrios Great Vespers Fr. John Sardis (Retired)

SUNDAY SERVICES: 8:30am Matins 9:30am Liturgy Every year on October 26 we celebrate

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS: the Feast of our Patron Saint Demetrios the Monday-Friday, 9a.m.-1p.m. Great Martyr, Wonderworker, and Myroblete.

OFFICE MANAGER: Jackie Vatistas On that day, whatever day of the week it may fall on, we celebrate the Orthros or Matins CHANTER: Yanni Halekakis Service, followed by the Divine Liturgy. ALTAR BOYS: Louis Karagiannes Michael Halekakis However, the celebration of the Feast of our th PARISH COUNCIL: Patron Saint actually begins on October 25 . Pres. – Connie Jelatis Hoke Since the Liturgical Day begins at sunset, not V.P. – Kathy Leoris Treas. – Billy Marinakos sunrise, the feast begins at the celebration of the Rec. Sec. – Cathy Pasinski Great Vespers Service on the eve of the Feast, Corr. Sec. – Donna Krissek th Daniel Alvarez October 25 . On a side note, the Liturgical Day Georgia Aralles-Vlahos begins at sunset because of the Biblical Panagiotis Danos John Iskalis reference in Genesis 1:5 “And there was Jim Karagiannes evening and there was morning, one day” – the Mary Nunchuck Maria Sakas darkness (evening) came before the light was created by God (morning). Patty Stianos Gus Tziavaras At any rate, the Feast of our Patron Saint begins with the Great John Zouras th Vespers Service on October 25 at 7pm, and since the Divine Liturgy on SUNDAY SCHOOL: October 26th takes place in the morning when most people are forced to be at Maria Earth work, it is the Great Vespers Service that affords us the greatest opportunity to GREEK SCHOOL: Jackie Vatistas gather in worship and celebrate our parish Feast Day. Unfortunately, most of us squander that opportunity to come together and celebrate the Great Vespers JOY: Rae Anne Alvarez / Nectaria Zouras Service of our Patron Saint.

GOYA : Saint Demetrios is our Patron Saint, which means that our Church Demetra Utter / Jennifer Stianos Temple and our entire community are dedicated in his honor. This means, in PHILOPTOCHOS : Niki Tziavaras turn, that we as a community and as individuals, have a special place in HIS

AHEPA: heart. While all our prayers are directed ultimately to Christ, we can ask our Petros Macheras Patron Saint Demetrios to help us, protect us, and fight for us. As our patron,

BOOKSTORE / BOOKCLUB: he loves us, and will do everything he can to defend us and fight for our Dr. Mary Nunchuck salvation, how can we ignore his Feast? Please make every possible attempt to

COUPLES GROUP: attend the Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy of our beloved Saint Demetrios – Allena Barbato he fights for us every day, please take advantage of this opportunity to fight ATHLETICS: for HIM. Petros Macheras - Fr. Cosmas Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church
