Dès l’attaque allemande du 10 mai 1940, qui prend la France par surprise, le département de l’Hérault doit à nouveau faire face à l’arrivée massive de réfugiés venus de Belgique et des départements du nord de la France. Après la signature de l’armistice avec l’Allemagne, le 22 juin 1940, et avec l’Italie le 24 juin 1940, le régime de la IIIe République s’achève par le vote des pleins pouvoirs au maréchal Pétain, le 10 juillet 1940. Trois parlementaires héraultais s’opposent à ce vote : Paul Boulet, Jules Moch et Vincent Badie. A Londres, le 18 juin 1940, le général de Gaulle, isolé, lance son appel à la Résistance. Pour le département de l’Hérault, alors en zone libre, commence une période difficile avec l’apparition des problèmes de ravitaillement et du manque de main-d’œuvre, la dégradation de l’état sanitaire de la population, l’absence des prisonniers de guerre puis leur relève, la situation mitigée de l’industrie d’un côté accaparée par l’Allemagne, de l’autre affligée d’une baisse d’activité.

    fascism 8 (2019) 36-60 brill.com/fasc Norwegian Fascism in a Transnational Perspective: The Influence of German National Socialism and Italian Fascism on the Nasjonal Samling, 1933–1936 Martin Kristoffer Hamre Humboldt University of Berlin and King’s College London [email protected] Abstract Following the transnational turn within fascist studies, this paper examines the role German National Socialism and Italian Fascism played in the transformation of the Norwegian fascist party Nasjonal Samling in the years 1933–1936. It takes the rivalry of the two role models as the initial point and focusses on the reception of Italy and Germany in the party press of the Nasjonal Samling. The main topics of research are therefore the role of corporatism, the involvement in the organization caur and the increasing importance of anti-Semitism. One main argument is that both indirect and direct German influence on the Nasjonal Samling in autumn 1935 led to a radi- calization of the party and the endorsement of anti-Semitic attitudes. However, the Nasjonal Samling under leader Vidkun Quisling never prioritized Italo-German rivalry as such. Instead, it perceived itself as an independent national movement in the com- mon battle of a European-wide phenomenon against its arch-enemies: liberalism and communism.     ANÁLISE DA TRADUÇÃO DO LIVRO DE ABEL SALAZAR A CRISE DA EUROPA Alexandra Guimarães Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto Portugal [email protected] Resumo O presente artigo consiste na análise da tradução para inglês do livro A Crise da Europa, de Abel Salazar e pretende explicar a metodologia utilizada no processo tradutivo e as opções que foram tomadas na produção do texto de chegada. O protocolo celebrado entre a Casa-Museu Abel Salazar e o ISCAP deu o mote a esta colaboração que tem como objetivo final a edição da obra traduzida, possibilitando que o legado de Abel Salazar esteja cada vez mais acessível a um número crescente de pessoas. Este trabalho pretende, não só, tornar disponível a obra do autor a novos públicos através da sua publicação na que é hoje a língua universal – o inglês –, mas também dar conta de quem foi Abel Salazar em toda a sua soberba pluralidade. O livro foi escrito entre 1937 e 1942, pelo que o desfasamento temporal que separam o autor da tradutora resultou, necessariamente, numa pesquisa sobre a evolução da língua portuguesa, tendo em conta os diversos acordos ortográficos que a têm vindo a modelar, como, de resto, tão bem o sentimos, neste momento particular. O distanciamento temporal entre o autor / texto fonte e o tradutor / texto de chegada é, igualmente, analisado com recurso a exemplos que o demonstram e clarificam a postura metodológica da tradutora. Député de la Seine de 1914 à 1919 puis de 1924 à 1927. Sénateur de la Seine de 1927 à 1936. Sénateur du Puy-de-Dôme depuis 1936. Maire d’Aubervilliers depuis 1923. Président du Conseil à trois reprises dans les années 30. A occupé divers postes de ministres dans les années 20 et 30. Placé sous surveillance au moment du Sursaut, il s’enfuit en Espagne, puis rentre en France après la fin des combats en Métropole. Il est choisi par les autorités allemandes pour présider le gouvernement fantoche de ce qu’il décide de baptiser Nouvel Etat Français. Il s’y attribue plusieurs ministères qu’il sera peu à peu conduit, de bon gré ou non, à abandonner à d’autres. Deux années durant, il se montre incapable de conduire une politique cohérente, sinon pour se soumettre aux diktats de l’Occupant. Son étoile ne cesse de pâlir jusqu’au coup de force (feutré) de Jacques Doriot au début de l’été 1943. Pierre Laval porte désormais le titre de Président du NEF, mais ce titre ne lui donne aucun pouvoir. Au reste, stricto sensu, Laval ne fait plus partie du gouvernement du NEF. C’est d’ailleurs ce qu’il plaidera, sans le moindre succès, lors de son procès en 1945. Président du Conseil, ministre de l’Intérieur et de la Sécurité de l’Etat : Jacques Doriot Né en 1898.     French Collaborationists fighting for the Nazi Forces Légion des volontaires français contre le bolchévisme (Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism) – also officially known as 638 Infanterieregiment in Nazi Germany. The German invasion of the Soviet Union on the 22nd June 1941 provided a major fillip to the French collaborationists. The Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism (or simply Légion des volontaires français, LVF) was a (private) collaborationist French militia founded on July 8, 1941. The Legion of French Volunteers was mainly made up of right-wing Frenchmen and French prisoners of war who preferred fighting to forced labour in Germany. Many Russians who fled the Bolshevik Revolution (1917–1922) and who were enrolled in the Légion Étrangère (Foreign Legion) joined the LVF. It gathered various collaborationist parties, including Marcel Bucard's Mouvement Franciste, Marcel Déat's National Popular Rally, Jacques Doriot's French Popular Party, Eugène Deloncle's Social Revolutionary Movement, Pierre Clémenti's French National-Collectivist Party and Pierre Costantini's French League. French volunteers wore German uniforms. But, like other foreign volunteers, the French were allowed to wear their national colours on the right sleeve of their German uniform and on the Stahlhelm (helmet). Both German and French decorations were worn. The wearing of German uniforms may well have been a hindrance to the recruitment of right-wing, but albeit patriotic, Frenchmen. The LVF was torn by the collaborationist political in-fighting, deplorable management, much embezzlement, and a sprawling bureaucracy at home in Paris while the troops were being slaughtered at the front.     The ‘National Socialist Party of Greece’ and its Contacts with Italy: Contribution to the Study of Greek Fascism Eleftheria MANTA * Keywords: George Merkouris, National Socialist Party of Greece, fascism abroad, Greek fascism, CAUR Abstract: The economic crisis of the early 1930s facilitated the spread of fascist ideas in Greece. It was in this context that George Merkouris founded the National Socialist Party of Greece, on 7 April 1933. Merkouris’ contacts with Italian fascism and the CAUR began in February 1934. What the Greek politician wanted was support for the National Socialist Party and help with propagating fascist ideas in Greece. Having secured assurance of financial support from Italy, Merkouris decided the publication of a newspaper called Ethniki Simaia (‘National Flag’). Its first number appeared on 9 December 1934. The purpose was to disseminate the ‘new ideas’ to the mass of the people, these ‘new ideas’ representing the need to change the parliamentary system that had led the nation into an impasse. Merkouris also participated to the Montreux Conference (December 1934), which was organised by PNF and the CAUR, intending to serve as a forum for Europe’s fascist forces. He was elected as a member of the Organising Committee, which would prepare the next International Fascist Conference the following year. The political developments in Greece of 1935, put an end to any dealings between Merkouris and the Italian Fascist Party. Finally, with its ban on all political parties the Metaxas dictatorship of 4 August, 1936 spelled the end for the National Socialist Party itself. The economic crisis of the early 1930s, which brought about the devaluation of the drachma (1932) and the paralysis of Greece’s political system, also affected the country in other ways, one of which was facilitating the spread of fascist ideas.
