FBO Artist Spotlight!

Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) has partnered with three local artists to display their work at the Airport’s Fixed Base Operator (FBO) Terminal. The artists were chosen out of several applicants by the AGS Art Committee. Their beautiful works of art will be on display for one year starting in October. Tom Supersky Tom Supensky is Professor Emeritus at Towson University in Towson, Maryland, where he taught in the Art Department for over 35 years. His ceramic sculptures have been shown throughout the US. He has also exhibited his work in England, Germany, Italy, Korea, and Australia. He has taught on Fulbright exchanges in England, Germany, Italy and Australia. He is the author of Looking At Art, Tate Publications, that introduces aesthetic concepts fundamental to being an artist. He is currently curating an art exhibition of noted ceramic artists from the US and Europe all over the age of 70 titled Old Hands In Clay for the National Council on for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in March of 2014. Priscilla Hollingsworth is an Augusta artist who works primarily in clay as well as other media such as drawing and painting. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, and an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, where she studied with Toshiko Takaezu. She taught from 1993 to 2010 at , where she was appointed full professor in the art department. Her work was shown in the 2013 Scripps Priscilla Hollingsworth National Ceramics Exhibition at Scripps College in the greater Los Angeles area – this is the longest-running exhibition of contemporary ceramics in the U.S. Also in 2013, her work appeared in an exhibition of installations at The Clay and Glass Gallery in Ontario, Canada, as well as in an international teapot exhibition in Shanghai, China. Ms. Hollingsworth has received artist residency awards from the Vermont Studio Center, Santa Fe Art Institute, the Kohler Company’s Arts/Industry Program, the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, Artpark, the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, and others. Ms. Hollingsworth is a founding member of Southern Observatory, which is a small group of contemporary artists working in the Central Area. Pam Ferguson is a collage artist who incorporates drawing, painting, and photography. Pam earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from North Carolina Central University and her Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Howard University. She taught drawing, design and humanities classes at Augusta State University from 2005-2013. Pam has held numerous solo exhibitions across North Carolina and . Some of these exhibitions include Sipping and Tasting from the Same Stream, Emerging Artist Exhibit, and Evidence of Culture. One of her exhibits, Just Another Wall Around The Block, was held as the main gallery at the University of North Carolina. Ferguson lives in Augusta with her husband Christopher Haggins and three children.

The Georgia Airports Association’s Annual Conference Comes to Augusta!

The Georgia Airports Association (GAA) is an important and valuable transportation resource for the state’s residents, businesses, and visitors. The GAA speaks for all airports within the state to get the maximum amount of financial sup- port for every airport, as well as, educate local state representatives and senators on the economic importance of the airport to the state and their specific districts and hometowns.

Every year the GAA holds an annual conference and convention which offers seminars and meetings with experts from all areas of aviation such as operations, airport business, finance, safety, and wildlife control. The 2013 GAA conference will be held in Augusta Georgia, October 16th through 19th. This conference will be held at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center on the Riverwalk. This event will bring approximately 200 aviation representatives from around the U.S. to the CSRA!

The Augusta Regional Airport has partnered with The Augusta Museum of History, Mead and Hunt, and Republic Park- ing to host a Dessert Reception the night of the 16th at the Augusta Museum of History for all of the GAA Conference attendees. This reception is the perfect opportunity to welcome all of the GAA guests to the CSRA while highlighting Augusta’s rich history.

AGS’s Historical Partnership with The Boshears Skyfest! Augusta Regional Airport and the Boshears Skyfest have had a long lasting partnership that dates back to 2002 with the second annual Skyfest. In 2002 Augusta Regional Airport Aviation Commissioner, Marci Wilhelmi, sat on the Boshears planning committee which coordinates all aspects of the event which includes static displays, aerial performances, food vendors, etc. The Boshears Skyfest has been the only aviation event held within 100 miles of Augusta for the past 11 years. The Boshears is held to promote the love of aviation to the young citizens of the CSRA and the surrounding area. Due to the numerous sponsorships all children 12 and under are given free admission to enjoy the weekends festivities. The Skyfest also partners with The Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA to hold a Boshears Memorial Ground Loop 5K & 10K race in which all proceeds go directly to the local club members. Congratulations to Captain Jeremy Kendrick for receiving the award for the State Representative of ARFF Working Group. Captain Kendrick was the winner out of all of the south eastern airports! Captain Kendrick is a veteran firefighter and holds several certifications in the fire service and emergency medical field. He has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science and is currently finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.
