4 What’s Epic about Intelsat EpicNG

5 Multi-spot Is a Key Ingredient to HTS Performance

Concentrate power Improved link 1 on a smaller area performance

More capacity Reuse spectrum 2 per satellite

Wide beam Spot Beams

6 Smaller Antennas and Faster Speeds

Traditional satellite HTS

Smaller remote ESA terminal

Faster Speeds

7 Challenge: Most HTS Systems Are Closed The Right Architecture Defines The User Experience

• Closed HTS system: • Hardwired gateways in fixed location: Forced to use the satellite operator gateway • Vertically integrated model: Modem technology prescribed by satellite operator • One-size fits all design: Systems often designed for consumer requirement • Impossible or difficult to differentiate from competitors • Limiting value-add opportunities and increasing dependency on satellite operator - transforms network providers into mere distributors

That’s why we invented Intelsat EpicNG

8 What Makes The Platform Unique?

OPEN SCALABLE DIGITAL

Intelsat Proprietary and Confidential 9  Choose the modem technology best adapted to your business: EpicNG is compatible with all modem vendors

is  Locate your hubs where you want and use your preferred teleports: OPEN EpicNG allows you to uplink from any beam in any band Remain independent from technology and satellite vendors  Leverage your installed base of customers: EpicNG uses C and Ku- Ku- band so that you can band continue to grow your C- market with premier band spectrum

10 The Impact of Closed Architecture on Performance

• Ka-band HTS systems which are managed or shared have a closed architecture

• A closed architecture requires that all ground terminals use common equipment. Each closed HTS service is based upon a single platform and all terminals must use that platform.

• Thus, the customer is locked into this proprietary system and cannot easily take advantage of future modem technology improvements until the satellite operator is ready to upgrade their entire platform

11 Open Architecture Other HTS Systems • Backward compatibility with existing equipment • Freedom to choose your own ground technology • Compatible with future platforms and ecosystem improvements EpicNG Ecosystem Partners

Customer is locked into a closed and proprietary architecture

12 Intelsat EpicNG Embraces An Open Architecture Instead

• Intelsat designed the EpicNG platform with open architecture, enabling highly flexible network topologies and allowing varying ground network technologies to connect with one another. • Since many customers already have networks deployed, Intelsat EpicNG allows them to leverage their existing hub and remote hardware to enjoy higher throughput and even better throughput when their equipment is upgraded in the future • It gives you the freedom of choice to choose your own ground technology and vendor • It is compatible with future platforms and ecosystem improvements

13  Instantly improve your network performance: get more throughput out of your existing hardware

is  Make your network more and more capable overtime: Compatible with SCALABLE future platforms and ecosystem improvements Make your network more and more capable over time  Enjoy access to distributed fleet redundancy: 6 EpicNG satellites complementing a fleet of over ~50 satellites

14  Improve the productivity of your network: EpicNG enables optimization of the signal at various stages of the path for unmatched flexibility is  Adapt your network to changing market needs: DIGITAL Manage all your services, carrier by carrier with no Reach a whole new level of control and flexibility impact to the rest of your network

 Recover from jamming or disaster: Move your uplink to a different frequency or teleport location with little impact to your services

› Intelsat EpicNG satellites allow Ku-band transmissions with higher order modulation standards, in this case DVB-S2X. This results in large improvements on the spectral efficiency (bits/Hz) › Together with HEVC encoding, the 32APSK higher order modulation and DVB-S2X achieved efficiencies that make contribution and distribution via High Throughput Satellites attractive.

27 EpicNG Enabled Roll out of Digital Terrestrial TV in Armenia

28 Background • Armenia planned to transition to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in accordance with the ITU’s GE06 agreement • DTT would provide the following benefits • An increase in the capacity of broadcast transmission networks by improving spectrum efficiency • Provision of better signal quality and the support of HD services and interactivity • Ability to reap the digital dividend by reclaiming the frequency spectrum that is freed up

29 Challenges • The Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia (TRBNA) needed to complete the transition to DTT within the analog switch-off deadline which was fast approaching • The mountainous terrain of Armenia meant that rollout of infrastructure by terrestrial means would be very slow and expensive • TRBNA needed to achieve 100% coverage in the shortest time and lowest cost

30

Solution: Intelsat EpicNG

• Satellite is not affected by tough terrain and sites can be set up very quickly

IS-33e • The ubiquitous coverage of satellite meant that 100% reach could be achieved instantly

• The high performance of Intelsat EpicNG reduced the overall transmission cost

31 Outcome • TRBNA was able to complete the transition to DTT and meet their regulatory requirements quickly and cost-effectively

• TRBNA’s DTT network proved to be highly resilient against harsh weather conditions like heavy rain and snow due to the high performance of Intelsat EpicNG

• The flexible network infrastructure provided by Intelsat EpicNG also enables TRBNA to expand their viewership and content offerings easily in the future

“As we looked to upgrade our network to DTT, we needed a partner that had deep technical expertise in moving from analog and digital and could help us accelerate the rollout in a cost efficient manner. Given its breadth and depth of experience in helping companies expand and enhance their digital offerings, Intelsat was the right partner for us. Their innovative, next-generation Intelsat EpicNG satellite will be critical in helping us deliver superior service, high quality and affordable content to our television viewers and radio listeners throughout Armenia.” - Grigor Amalyn, General Manager TRBNA
