Sweet, Sweet Juice The year was 1977. Two very talented songwriters collaborated on a song about a someone who had to be set right by their significant every day in order for things to be right. The song was a big hit for the popular brother and sister duo The Carpenters. The song writers were Otha Young and Juice Newton and the song was "Sweet, Sweet Smile." Many people have asked and wondered why Juice never recorded this song herself. They need not wonder any longer. Juice has recorded this classic song on her new compilation "The Ultimate Hits Collection." Juice has recorded a modern rendition of this song. Juice peforms a different tempo and this of course differs from the version that The Carpenters recorded. Juice gave the song a new personality. Preface With some hesitation at CBS, Cayuga Productions continued Twilight Zone for what would be its last season, with a thirty-six episode pipeline – a larger count than had been seen since its first year. Producer Bert Granet, who began producing in the previous season, was soon replaced by William Froug as he moved on to other projects. The fifth season has always been considered the weakest and, as one reviewer stated, “undisputably the worst.” Harsh criticism. The lopsidedness of Seasons 4 and 5 – with a smattering of episodes that egregiously deviated from the TZ mold, made for a series much-changed from the one everyone had come to know. A possible reason for this was an abundance of rather disdainful or at least less-likeable characters. Most were simply too hard to warm up to, or at the very least, identify with. But it wasn’t just TZ that was changing. Television was no longer as new a medium. “It was a period of great ferment,” said George Clayton Johnson. By 1963, the idyllic world of the 1950s was disappearing by the day. More grittily realistic and reality-based TV shows were imminent, as per the viewing audience’s demand and it was only a matter of time before the curtain came down on the kinds of shows everyone grew to love in the 50s. -

1 Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) Youth (1902) This could have occurred nowhere but in England, where men and sea interpenetrate, so to speak—the sea entering into the life of most men, and the men knowing something or everything about the sea, in the way of amusement, of travel, or of bread-winning. We were sitting round a mahogany table that reflected the bottle, the claret-glasses, and our faces as we leaned on our elbows. There was a director of companies, an accountant, a lawyer, Marlow, and myself. The director had been a Conway boy, the accountant had served four years at sea, the lawyer—a fine crusted Tory, High Churchman, the best of old fellows, the soul of honor— had been chief officer in the P. & O. service in the good old days when mail- boats were square-rigged at least on two masts, and used to come down the China Sea before a fair monsoon with stun'-sails set alow and aloft. We all began life in the merchant service. Between the five of us there was the strong bond of the sea, and also the fellowship of the craft, which no amount of enthusiasm for yachting, cruising, and so on can give, since one is only the amusement of life and the other is life itself. Marlow (at least I think that is how he spelt his name) told the story, or rather the chronicle, of a voyage: “Yes, I have seen a little of the Eastern seas; but what I remember best is my first voyage there. -

Most questionnaire respondents reported living in Montgomery County (76 percent) or Harris County (22 percent). The remaining 2 percent of respondents live in Anderson, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Grimes, Galveston, Liberty and Walker counties. 68 percent of respondents work in Montgomery County. 31 percent of respondents reported working in Harris County. The remaining 1 percent of respondents are employed within Brazoria, Fort Bend or Walker County. 61 percent of the respondents live within The Woodlands (zip codes: 77380, 77381, 77382, 77384, 77389, 77375). 84 percent of respondents working in Downtown Houston, the Texas Medical Center, Greenway Plaza or Uptown/Galleria reported that they are not currently using METRO transit services. Arriving in The Woodlands 42 percent of all respondents are interested in Express Bus service originating in Downtown Houston, Texas Medical Center, Greenway Plaza or the Galleria/Uptown with an ultimate destination in Town Center, or at one of the three Woodlands Express Park and Ride lots. -

Jak podają źródła, w 1948 roku francuski badacz, kompozytor, akustyk Pierre Schaeffer (1910-1995) nagrał za pomocą mikrofonu dźwięki naturalne m.in. (śpiew ptaków, hałas uliczny, rozmowy) i próbował je przekształcać. Tak powstała muzyka nazwana konkretną (fr. musigue concrete). W tym samym roku wyemitował w radiu „Koncert szumów”. Jego najważniejszą kompozycją okazał się utwór pt. „Symphonie pour un homme seul” z 1950 roku. W kolejnych latach muzykę konkretną łączono z muzyką tradycyjną. Oto pionierzy tego eksperymentu: John Cage i Yannis Xenakis. Muzyka konkretna pojawiła się w kompozycji Rogera Watersa. Utwór ten trafił na ścieżkę dźwiękową do filmu „The Body” (1970). Grupa Beaver and Krause wprowadziła muzykę konkretną do utworu „Walking Green Algae Blues” z albumu „In A Wild Sanctuary” (1970), a zespół Pink Floyd w „Animals” (1977). Pierwsze próby tworzenia muzyki elektronicznej miały miejsce w Darmstadt (w Niemczech) na Międzynarodowych Kursach Nowej Muzyki w 1950 roku. W 1951 roku powstało pierwsze studio muzyki elektronicznej przy Rozgłośni Radia Zachodnioniemieckiego w Kolonii (NWDR- Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk). Tu tworzyli: H. Eimert (Glockenspiel 1953), K. Frag[Men]ted: Representations of Masculinity in David Foster Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in English at The University of Waikato by HAMISH ANSLEY 2017 ABSTRACT ________________________________________ Supported by a selection of original creative works, this thesis will undertake a comparative study of the ways in which masculinity is represented in David Foster Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club. I will begin with an overview of the field of masculinity studies, outlining the theoretical underpinnings of this thesis and its situation within the wider scholarship. Via close textual analysis, this thesis will examine the machinations by which these texts’ characters resist the oppressive forces of hegemonic masculinity and how such resistance frequently reproduces the patterns of hegemonic masculinity and thereby reinforces its dominant position.
