Combining a decisive old-school style and sensibility with an intuitive and youthful knowledge of music and technology, Emily and her team capture the magic that can only be created in the right studio by the right people. Founded by Emily in 1997, The Lodge is located in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village. Equipped with state-of-the art mastering, DVD authoring, surround sound, and specialized recording studios, The Lodge utilizes cutting-edge technologies and attracts both the industry’s most renowned artists and prominent newcomers. From its unique collection of outboard equipment to its sophisticated high-density digital audio workstations, The Lodge is furnished with specially handpicked pieces that lure both analog aficionados and digital audio- philes alike. Moreover, The Lodge is one of the few studios in the New York Metropolitan area with an in-house Ampex ATR-102 one-inch two-track tape machine for master playback, transfer and archival purposes. As Chief Mastering Engineer, Emily’s passion for integrating music with technology has been the driving force behind her success, enabling her to create some of the most distinctive sounding albums released in recent years. Her particular attention to detail and demand for artistic integrity is evident through her extensive body of work that spans genres and musical styles, and has made her a trailblazer in an industry notably lack- ing female representation. Emily helped to launch the flagship Apple store in Soho with her presentation on the relationship between mastering and Apple Computers. Some of the esteemed artists she has worked with include: Depeche Mode, David Bowie, The Walkmen, Dean & Britta, Lou Reed, Björk, Armin van Buuren, Morrissey, Vampire Weekend, Foo Fighters, Jeff Buckley, Sonic Youth, Third Eye Blind, Natalie Merchant, Aimee Mann, Nadine Coyle (of Girls Aloud), Tiesto, The Shins, Donald Fagen, Beyoncé Knowles, Garbage, BT, The Donnas, The Naked & Famous, Fran Healy (of Travis), Sinéad O’Connor, Destiny’s Child, Boy & Bear, Noah & The Whale, Simple Plan, Say Anything, The Morning Benders, Wu Tang Clan, Brand New, Against Me!, Vanessa Carlton, Sondre Lerche, Be Your Own Pet, Nada Surf, All American Rejects and The Prodigy to name a few. In addition, she has mastered original soundtracks for the following feature films: Training Day, Pokemon: The 1st Movie, Boys Don’t Cry, Lucky Number Slevin, Six Feet Under, NBC series “Heroes” and The Punisher, among many others. But even the most successful studios cannot just rest on their laurels. Seeing the potential for expansion, in 2004 The Lodge launched a production company with facilities in New York and Texas, as well as internation- ally in London and Tokyo. These advances make The Lodge one of the most comprehensive audio service facilities on the planet. Their team of award-winning composers and innovative producers has already won the acclaim of clients such as Mercedes, MTV and Disney. Current articles on Emily Lazar include features in Artist Pro (cover story), Bust Magazine, Electronic Musician (cover story), Home Recording Magazine, Mix Magazine, Billboard, Pro Sound News, Medialine, Remix Magazine and Tape Op. She has been a featured panelist lecturing on college campuses and in numerous music busi- ness and recording conferences, and has been awarded the prestigious Palamountain Award for Young Alumni Achievement from Skidmore College. Lazar is also a highly publicized product endorsee for Avalon Design (audio equipment) and Apple Computers and is a recently elected governor for the Grammy NY Chapter. * * * AUDIO MASTERING AND DVD AUTHORING 740 BROADWAY SUITE 605 NEW YORK NY 10003 www.thelodge.com t212.353.3895 f212.353.2575 Recent Highlights Foo Fighters Cults Raphaël “Wasting Light” “Cults” “Je sais que la Terre est Plate” (Roswell Records/RCA) (Columbia Records) (EMI France) The Walkmen Marianne Faithfull “You & Me” “Marianne Faithfull Live In Hollywood” The Raveonettes (Gigantic Records) (CD & DVD) “In And Out Of Control” (Eagle Rock Entertainment) (The Orchard) Garbage “Not Your Kind Of People” (STUNVOLUME) The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Rogue Wave “Belong” “Descended Like Vultures” (Slumberland Records/Fortuna Pop!) PROLOGUE Sidelines of chairs neatly divide the center field and a large stage stands erect. At its center, there is a stately podium flanked by disciplined men wearing the militaristic suits of the Fruit of Islam, a visible security squad. This is Ford Field, usually known for housing the Detroit Lions football team, but on this occasion it plays host to a different gathering and sentiment. The seats are mostly full, both on the floor and in the stands, but if you look closely, you’ll find that this audience isn’t the standard sporting fare: the men are in smart suits, the women dress equally so, in long white dresses, gloves, and headscarves.

Talented artists representing a vast array of religious groups in America express their religion through popular music styles. Christian Rock, Jewish Reggae and Muslim Hip-Hop are not anomalies; rather they are indicative of a larger subculture of radio-ready religious music. This pop music has a purpose but it is not a singular purpose. This music might enhance the worship experience, provide a wholesome alternative to the unsavory choices provided by secular artists, infiltrate the mainstream culture with a positive message, raise the level of musicianship in the religious subculture or appeal to a religious audience despite origins in the secular world.
