This high-altitude hike in the heart of South Tyrol is available in both the „extreme“ class and the „family- friendly“ variety. The six or seven stages go from hut to hut though the most beautiful spots of the Alpi Val Sarentino/Sarntal Valley Alps and offer stunning views of the ice-covered, 3.000 meter high peaks an jagged summits of the Dolomites. SUMMER 9 mountain | hiking Lots of fun at the summit storming. 10 SUMMER wandernmountain || traumpfadebiking The sports-loving biker will be amazed at the unexpected possibilities. But before you get ready you should remember that steep ascents are normal in a mountainous region like the Sarentino Valley. You should get ready for 600 to 700 meters difference in altitude. The less experienced cyclists may obtain detailed information at the tourist information office. SUMMER 11 mountain | bike Mike Felderer (Italian MTB-Pro up until 2013) and Walter Perkmann (Manager of the Sarentino Valley Tourist Office) are good friends and both enthusiastic mountain bikers. The two conduct the weekly guided mountain bike tours. Mike operates Mike’s Bike Garage (Sarentino village), where you can get a lot of technical service and plenty of personal advice. Since the summer of 2013, Mike has been host to kids and technical freaks at the new Mike’s Bike Park. SUMMER 13 sarentino | costumes On holidays and often also weekdays the people of the Sarentino Valley wear their especially beautiful costumes. Especially those of the men are very different from the other South Tyrol cos- tumes. Over the tight loden trousers with wide leather belts (“Fatsch”) and braces (“Krax”) they also wear the hand-knitted “Jangger”, a piece of clothing which nowadays is also a very popular leisure jacket. Results of floristic mapping, mainly from the period 2002-2004 This paper presents records of vascular plants new to the flora of South Tyrol (Province of Bozen/ Bolzano, Italy), gained from ongoing floristic mapping. Sixteen taxa (species and subspecies) are considered native or archeophytic: Asplenium trichomanes cf. subsp. inexpectans, A. trichomanes subsp. hastatum, A. trichomanes subsp. pachyrachis, A. trichomanes subsp. quadrivalens and A. tri- chomanes subsp. trichomanes, Carlina biebersteinii, Diphasiastrum oellgaardii, Dryopteris affinis subsp. borreri, D. affinis subsp. cambrensis, Dryopteris remota, Echinochloa crus-galli subsp. spiralis, Galium laevigatum, Pyrus cf. nivalis, Rumex acetosella subsp. pyrenaicus, Stellaria montana and Veronica sub- lobata. Callitriche obtusangula and Zannichellia palustris subsp. pedicellata are probably adventitious but well established in ditches. Callitriche cophocarpa, C. palustris s. str. and Verbascum crassifolium, which are supposed to be native species as well, can now be definitely confirmed. For Pulsatilla alpina subsp. alba, whose general presence in South Tyrol has been described in literature, speci- fic sites are given. Forty-six further taxa are aliens. Among them, five can be classified as mostly well established: Amaranthus blitum subsp. emarginatus, Euphorbia esula, Fallopia japonica, Helianthus ×laetiflorus and Impatiens glandulifera, the latter showing a particular conspicuous spreading. About half of the remaining taxa are casual, such as Acroptilon repens, which is probably new to Italy, whereas the other half are (locally) persisting or are of a yet uncertain chorological status.

A systematic analysis of the geographic variation of both valve shape and wing pattern reveals that the subspecies ofErebia euryale can be clustered into three groups, characterised by their valve shape. The adyte-group comprises the Alpine ssp. adyte and the Apenninian brutiorum, the euryale-group in- cludes the Alpine subspecies isarica and ocellaris, and all remaining extra- Alpine occurrences. The third group (kunz/-group), not recognised hitherto, is confined to a restricted, entirely Italian, part of the south- ern Alps. It comprises two subspecies: ssp. pseudoadyte (ssp. n.), hardly distinguishable from ssp. adyte by its wing pattern, and ssp. kunzi, strongly melanistic and even exceeding ssp. ocellaris in this respect. The ssp. pseudoadyte territory is surrounded by the valleys of the rivers Adda, Rio Trafoi and Adige, and ssp. kunzi inhabits the eastern Venetian pre-Alps, the Feltre Alps and the Pale di San Martino. The interven- ing region (the western Venetian pre-Alps, the Cima d'Asta group and the Lagorai chain) is inhabited by intermediate populations.
