CALL FOR ENTRIES/Prospectus A call for entries is announced for the Hill Country Arts Foundation Members Show: “Myths and Muses”

Myth - Be inspired by the beautiful mythological designs in such work as Wedge-wood china and Steuben glass, the extensive use of mythology in poetry, in drama, and in art – from Michelangelo to Paul Manship and Picasso. The names of mythological beings are used everyday.

• Apollo - god of light, masculine beauty, and music Modern-day reference - Apollo theatre in New York • Atlas - titan doomed to support the world upon his shoulders Modern-day reference - moving company atlas van lines • As for opera – there are at least twenty-six operas based on one mythological character, Orpheus.

Muse - “Sing to me oh Muse”… The Nine Muses of the Greek Mythology were deities that gave artists, philosophers and individuals the necessary inspiration for creation.

The Nine Muses were: Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomeni, Terpsichore, Erato, Polymnia, Ourania and Calliope.

Some artists, writers, poets, musicians, and even scientists look to a muse as the source of their creativity or genius. A muse can be a number of things such as a person, place, or object. You can also find your muse by tapping into and exploring your own innate creativity.

This exhibit has no predefined expectation for type or style of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental. All media accepted. . Artists may submit up to three pieces of artwork for a hanging fee of $30. With space allowing, all work submitted will be displayed.

DELIVER TO HCAF: Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 10:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. EXHIBIT DATES: February 23rd – March 30th. RECEPTION: Friday, February 23rd from 5 to 7 P.M.
