I’ve been hanging around girl found out that the show we’d booked in her town was in a punk rock for so long. I’ve seen so many shows. I’ve bar and she and her friends couldn’t get in, she set up a IIwatched so many bands and fads and zines and people second, all-ages show for us in her town. In fact, everywhere come and go. I’m now at that point in my life where a lot of I went, people were taking matters into their own hands. They kids at all-ages shows really are half my age. By all rights, were setting up independent bookstores and info shops and art it’s time for me to start acting like a grumpy old man, declare galleries and zine libraries and makeshift venues. Every town punk rock dead, and start whining about how bands today are I went to inspired me a little more. just second-rate knock-offs of the bands that I grew up loving. hen, I thought about all these books about punk rock Hell, I should be writing stories about “back in the day” for that have been coming out lately, and about all the jaded Spin by now. But, somehow, the requisite feelings of being TTold guys talking about how things were more vital back jaded are eluding me. In fact, I’m downright optimistic. in the day. SOUTH dir Morgan Quaintance [Yusef Komunyakaa] An island is one great eye, gazing out, a beckoning lighthouse, searchlight, a wishbone compass, or counterweight to the stars. When it comes to outlook and point of view, a figure stands on a rocky ledge peering out towards an archipelago of glass on the mainland, a seagull's wings touching the tip of a high wave, out to where the brain may stumble. [Faint crackling static] [Melancholic solo cello] [Intertwining string melodies] [Melodies soaring higher] [Melancholic cello theme returns] [Theme soars then descends] [Low string melodies] [Sombre dying cadence] [Music ends] [Echoing footsteps] [Audience members clearing throats] [Piano cadence] [Baritone sings aria in Italian] [Singing continues, accompanied by piano] [Dramatic climax] [Music ends] [Female voice] Once you can speak, you can learn to sing. [Dramatic piano cadence] -Oh, I began teaching in er... 1971. -[Soprano singing in background] I returned to Vienna and then I built up a choir. But I had a forty voice choir. And this choir was so professional, they sang in about seven languages. Because I taught them to sing in German, in Italian, in French and even Russian. So, the first thing I asked them to do, I say sing anything [chuckles]. And then when I hear where the voice is I know whether it's a low voice, or a middle voice, or a high voice; I can tell. [Soprano and piano continues] The power, actually, you can use in the right way. Because you don't always have to sing very loud, you can control the singing, sing softly but yet that could reach out beyond.

  • Hawkwind – 50Th Anniversary Live
All Aboard The Skylark“ zusammen. ‚Born To Go‘, ‚Space Is Deep‘, ‚Spirit Of The Age‘, ‚The Watcher‘, ‚Silver Machine‘ oder die beiden Doppelpacks ‚Assault And Battery / The Golden Void‘ und ‚Master Of The Universe / Welcome To The Future‘. Doch genauso bekommen insgesamt fünf Stücke aus „All Aboard The Skylark“ ihr Recht.

  • BBC Four Programme Information
SOUND OF CINEMA: THE MUSIC THAT MADE THE MOVIES BBC Four Programme Information Neil Brand presenter and composer said, “It's so fantastic that the BBC, the biggest producer of music content, is showing how music works for films this autumn with Sound of Cinema. Film scores demand an extraordinary degree of both musicianship and dramatic understanding on the part of their composers. Whilst creating potent, original music to synchronise exactly with the images, composers are also making that music as discreet, accessible and communicative as possible, so that it can speak to each and every one of us. Film music demands the highest standards of its composers, the insight to 'see' what is needed and come up with something new and original. With my series and the other content across the BBC’s Sound of Cinema season I hope that people will hear more in their movies than they ever thought possible.” Part 1: The Big Score In the first episode of a new series celebrating film music for BBC Four as part of a wider Sound of Cinema Season on the BBC, Neil Brand explores how the classic orchestral film score emerged and why it’s still going strong today. Neil begins by analysing John Barry's title music for the 1965 thriller The Ipcress File. Demonstrating how Barry incorporated the sounds of east European instruments and even a coffee grinder to capture a down at heel Cold War feel, Neil highlights how a great composer can add a whole new dimension to film. Music has been inextricably linked with cinema even since the days of the "silent era", when movie houses employed accompanists ranging from pianists to small orchestras.

  • In “Love” Jukebox Memoir
in “Love” Jukebox Memoir (release date: 2/25/14) After recording 2012’s Domestic Disturbances, I realized I’d been struggling on the last couple of records to assimilate some of our many influences into what could be described as “The Jet Age sound.” Thus the concept for this album: To “own” the music that inspired us, without worrying about appearances. Of course, we didn’t want to sound like a wedding band, so if a song didn’t make sense to a player, if it didn’t resonate, it wasn’t gonna happen. A few songs didn’t make the cut (notably my ABBA homage—seriously), but once we’d gotten those missteps out of the way, these tracks quickly fell into place: 1. I Can’t Turn Around – Deliberately written as a state-of-the-art Jet Age song, this track brings our memoir up- to-date. I’d initially attributed the extended outro to our stint opening for The Wedding Present during 2011’s Bizarro tour, but I realized we’d been doing stuff like this since our debut, 2005’s Breathless. 2. Come Lie Down – A dream come true for me as Swervedriver’s Adam Franklin and Ride’s Mark Gardener join me on vocals. When I first started making music, Ride really showed me how guys who sing like girls could rock like The Who, while Swervedriver gave me guitar heroics to aspire to. I also cribbed from Spiritualized’s take on the Troggs’ “Anyway That You Want Me” and The Wedding Present’s “Dalliance,” which is ironic, since the latter inspired me to pare back some of my shoegazing tendencies.

iisiiil • ..... Cover: Rectoi ion Time - The Answ< la, p3 ! Rector's Question Time: 'I don't think that starving is the next option' Sir Eric Ash, Rector of Imperial College, took part in a question and answer session on Monday evening. Over a hundred students listened as Sir Eric fielded questions on a'wide range of student and non student issues. Union President , Mr Paul Shanley, chaired the discussion and took both prepared and spontaneous questions from the floor. Despite the controversial nature of many of the topics raised the atmosphere remained relaxed and somewhat informal. Although many questions centered on student concerns, money and accommodation - the lack of it, the presence of college staff ensured a broader base to the discussion. The most notable aspect of the discussion was the circular nature of many problems facing both student and staff alike; at the centre of that circle was money. In Sir Eric's own words 'people might find it hard to believe but before I came to Imperial I was not obsessed with money.' In answer to the question 'Now that the binary divide has gone, and that some polytechnics in London may achieve University status, is it time that Imperial should reconsider the benefits of London University and investigate opting out?' Sir Eric stated 'we haven't stopped thinking about it (opting out)'. He continued that althrinoh Imrwiiil '^a "6" iO run our own (university)', with Imperial Caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea gaining little benefit in terms of cut price deals organised through the University of investment of a loan.
