Tall Buildings in Numbers The Middle East: 30+ Years of Building Tall The Middle East region is hosting its first CTBUH International Conference since 2008. In that year, there were 119 completed buildings of 150 meters or greater height. Ten years later, there are now 387 such buildings either completed or topped out (with expected 2018 completion), meaning an average of nearly 27 were constructed each year in the region during that decade. As this study will show, however, the 148,257,284 growth is not evenly distributed nor especially correlated to overall population, or to density. The dynamics, and the reasons for high-rise construction in the region, are as diverse as the nations that comprise it. % Asiatic Turkey 36.8 64,012,926 Izmir (6) Ankara (8) of pop 0 buildings Mersin (1) 0.0% % of total 15.9 Konya (1) of pop. 16 buildings Rest of % 36,933,700 Middle East Lebanon 5,369,872 Egypt 4.1 % 79,926,270 Oman Beirut (2) % of total 9.2 Syria 1.3 2 buildings of pop. % 1 building of pop.
