FA Vase Winners: 2002, 2009, 2010 WHITLEY BAY FC BW3 Welcome to Hillheads WHITLEY BAY v NEWCASTLE BENFIELD STL NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION 1 Saturday 16th October 2010

Good afternoon and welcome to Hillheads Park for today’s STL Northern League Division 1 game with Newcastle Benfield. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Newcastle Benfield and I hope they enjoy their afternoon with us. Last season, we met on four occasions with Whitley coming out on top three times. However, all four games were closely contested and in April, it took a last minute equaliser from Adam Johnston to earn us a 2-2 draw in the League game here at Hillheads. Today’s game could be just as close, with Benfield having made an excellent start to the season thanks in no small part to striker John Campbell who has scored no fewer than 16 league goals to date. He is certainly a player to be watched. We are delighted to be part the community campaign to support national Breast Cancer Awareness Month and thanks to special dispensation from the Northern League, the Whitley Bay players will be wearing pink shirts in today’s game. Members of the Tynemouth and Whitley Bay Soroptomists, dressed in pink, will be making collections around the ground and we hope you will support this very worthy cause, further details of which appear on other pages of the programme. May I remind you that as work has now started on our new covered stand on the far side of the ground, the terrace on that side is closed for safety reasons. It is anticipated that the work will take approximately five weeks, but this is dependent on the weather. Next Saturday, we have another tough game when we travel to league leaders Consett and the following Tuesday evening, 26th October, we take on Dunston UTS here at Hillheads. Before both of those games, our Under 18 team will be at home to Staveley Miners Welfare, from Chesterfield in the FA Youth Cup 3rd Qualifying Round on Thursday, evening, kick off 7.45pm. Admission is just £3 and £1 for concessions. Paul McIlduff Chairman HOWAY THE BAY! Enjoy Today's Game

David Coulson Defender Signed during the 2004/05 from Spennymoor United. A quick hard tackling defender who gives attackers no time on the ball. Brian Rowe Defender Brian needs no introduction to Bay fans. A no nonsense defender who tackles hard. Very littler gets past him. Brian Smith Defender Another player who needs no introduction to Bay fans. Just returned for another spell at the Club. A big powerful defender who misses nothing the air and scores his fair amount of goals.

Lee set a unique record during 2004/05, becoming the only player ever to have scored in the FA Cup, FA Vase and FA Youth Cup in the same season. He became only the 6th player to score 100 goals for the club. Lee scored the first goal at Wembley in 2009 and was voted Man of the Match and was on the score sheet again in the 2010 Final. Glen Taylor Forward Glen signed from Ashington in September in a deal that saw Phil Bell go the other way. Glen is a young striker with lots of talent and he made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut at Penrith.

Paul Chow Forward Paul joined the club from Jarrow Roofing, where he had been their top scorer on many occasions. Paul had a tremendous first season scoring more than 30 goals, forming a great partnership with Lee Kerr. He bettered that scoring his 40th goal of the season and Bay’s second at Wembley in 2009. Adam Johnston Forward Adam rejoined the club from Durham City shortly before the 2008/09 FA Vase Semi-Final He is a proven goalscorer and just missed out scoring one of Wembley’s most spectacular goals when his shot from fully 60 yards was pushed on to the bar and scrambled clear by a desperate Glossop North End goalkeeper.
