FA Vase Winners: 2002, 2009, 2010 WHITLEY BAY FC BW3 Welcome to Hillheads WHITLEY BAY v BILLINGHAM SYNTHONIA STL NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION 1 Saturday 6th November 2010

Good afternoon and welcome to Hillheads Park for today’s STL Northern League Division 1 game with Billingham Synthonia. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Billingham Synthonia and I hope they enjoy their afternoon with us. This is the second time we have met this season, having shared the points in a 2-2 draw on Teesside back at the beginning of Septe mber. After leading by two goals shortly before half time that afternoon, we were pegged back as the Synners fought back strongly. We were all disappointed to have Tuesday evening’s game at South Shields called off at the last minute but parts of the pitch were clearly waterlogged. As some fans were saying after the postponement was announced, we have played in worse conditions; FA Vase ties at Bootle and at home to Flixton come to mind. However, the referee has to make the decision taking into account the safety of the players and the prospects of a fair contest being possible. Next Saturday we begin our defence of the FA Vase with another trip to west Yorkshire, this time to Thackley. This will be our fourth outing to the same area this season, following FA Cup ties at Liversedge, Ossett and Guis eley and we will be hoping to make it three wins out of four, although it will not be an easy task. On the only previous occasion we have met in the FA Vase, Thackley won 3-1 back in 2004. Let’s hope we can reverse that score and enjoy another memorable FA Vase run.
