FA Vase Winners: 2002, 2009, 2010, 2011 WHITLEY BAY FC BW3 Welcome to Hillheads WHITLEY BAY v BILLINGHAM TOWN STL NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION 1 Tuesday 6th December 2011

Good evening and welcome to Hillheads Park for tonight’s STL Northern League Division 1 game with Billingham Town. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Billingham Town and I hope they enjoy their evening with us. Town have struggled for much of the season and are currently third from bottom of the table but on Saturday they recorded one of their best results so far, winning 4-1 at Tow Law and I am sure they will be hoping to continue their improved form tonight. We seem to be saving our best performances for the FA Vase and the first half against Bridlington on Saturday was a real joy to watch. We overwhelmed one of the best sides in the Northern Counties East League with four goals in half an hour as Paul Chow continued his remarkable run in the Vase, having now scored in each of the last 12 rounds of the competition. It was also good to see David Coulson on the score sheet again with two excellent headers. Every player contributed to the victory but unfortunately, several picked up injuries which may rule them out of tonight’s game. This may give opportunities to one or two of the reserves, who recorded an outstanding 8-1 win away to Northern Alliance champions Ponteland United at the weekend. If Gareth Williams plays tonight, it will be his 100th appearance for Whitley and his 76th since returning to Hillheads at the start of last season. Congratulations ‘Cheeks’ and here’s to many more appearances in Bay colours! Next Saturday we face a tough game at Ashington, who will be buoyant after causing one of the shocks of the round by knocking Spennymoor out of the Vase last Saturday. Our next game back at Hillheads will be on Saturday 17th December, when we play South Shields.

BW12 A brief history of Whitley Bay Football Club

1970’s The early 1970’s saw Bay’s successes continue with the League Cup being won in 1970/71, and the County Cup in 1970/71 and 1972/73. With the demise of amateur football the Club’s fortunes took a nosedive, culminating in them havin g to apply for re-election to the League in 1979/80. 1980’s In 1987/88, with fortunes rising, the club joined the Northern . In 1989/90 the Bay had their best ever run in the FA Cup, when they reached the 3rd Round, going down 1-0 at Rochdale, after a 1-0 win at then League side Scarborough, and in the 2nd Round defeating former winners Preston North End 2-0 in front of the BBC Match of the Day cameras. 1990’s The following season Whitley won not only the First Division Cup for the second time but also the Championship and promotion to the Premier Division.
