I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Dunston UTS and I hope they enjoy their afternoon with us. Games between our two sides always seem to be closely contested and this was certainly the case last season when we met three times and on each occasion Whitley won 2-1. The FA Vase Quarter Final at Dunston is a game that few will forget, with Whitley coming from behind after a titanic battle in front of a huge crowd. A few days later, an even later come back saw the Bay snatch three points in a dramatic league game. Since those games, it has been an eventful period at Whitley Bay Football Club. In the League we missed out on runners up position only on goal difference but went on to achieve a record breaking third consecutive FA Vase win in one of the best cup finals seen at the new Wembley Stadium. During the close season, Assistant Manager Steve Cuggy and Coach Gavin Fell moved up the coast to Blyth Spartans. Both made tremendous contributions to the successes we have achieved in recent years and we would like to thank them for their efforts and we wish them well in their new positions. We also wish Terry Burke well in his football retirement. He has been a great asset and ambassador for Whitley Bay football club. Among our new signings are LeePaul Scroggins from South Shields, Phil Bell who makes a welcome return and most recently striker Robbie Dale, who has joined us from Blyth. With the new faces that Ian and new assistant Brian Rowe have brought in, there can be little doubt that an exciting season lies ahead! I would also like to thank everyone who has helped Dave and Tommy with repairs, maintenance and improvements to the ground in the close season. I am sure you will agree with me, that the ground is looking fantastic thanks to their efforts. Once again a big thank you for all your time and hard work. On Tuesday evening, for our first away game of the season we travel to Cumbria to play Penrith and then next Saturday we are back at Hillheads when we face Bishop Auckland in the Extra Preliminary round of the FA Cup. DUNSTON UTS 1 WHITLEY BAY 2 Tuesday 15th March 2011 In more ways than one, this was an action replay of the FA Vase game ten days earlier, with Whitley again coming from behind to claim a 2-1 victory.
