Yes here we are, back at the start of a new campaign for what will undoubtedly be a very competitive season. I am confident we will do well as in addition to the squad we had last season we have made some great new signings in Chris Swailes, Jordan Nellis, Lee McAndrew, Johnny Wilson and Jack Betts with only Matty Grieve and Stephen Buzzeo leaving for pastures new. -
Terras Times September 2020
Terras Times The newsletter of Weymouth FC Supporters Association. September 2020 2018/2019 Southern League Champions 2019/2020 National League South play off winners. Hi Terras fans, Not much from me this month (no need to cheer that loudly!!) as we are jam packed with content from other contributors. Only remains to say welcome Brian Stock and COYT! James MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Our current membership base is 212, including family members. We also have 50 individual members who have taken advantage of the 5 year membership scheme! So far this calendar year, we have seen 100 new members join , which is incredible! We saw an initial increase when the away travel discount was announced followed by a surge again when the ticketing preference scheme was disclosed in the summer. The addition of online applications via the club shop has proved popular but also slightly problematic. We are required by law to ensure applicants for membership are over 16 years of age, under 16's can be part of family membership, so if you are reading this and have not provided us with your DOB or indeed any other details, you need to get in touch via the email at the bottom. Furthermore, if you have any change to you personal details such a new address, phone number or email address, please communicate it to us so we can keep you up to date. One final but very important point to note for all members. The Terras ticket preference scheme requires Weymouth FC to have the name and membership number of all our members, so they can verify eligibility on application for tickets. -

The Road to Fame Or Failure? . 206 Chapter 1 The Demise S a teenager, Thomas Morgan, from inner-city Dublin, had Sir Alex Ferguson in his living room, A trying to persuade the 15-year-old midfielder to abandon his plans to join Blackburn Rovers. They were emerging as title rivals to Ferguson’s Manchester United and he was keen for Morgan to move to Old Trafford. Morgan chose Blackburn, signing for the Ewood Park side in 1994. A year later, Blackburn won their one and only Premier League title. But despite training with the league-winning squad, and making the bench for league and European matches, Morgan found himself released – and without a club – almost three years later. It was only weeks before captaining the Ireland Under-20s to a third-place finish in the 1997 World Championships in Malaysia. Put simply, Morgan fell by the wayside as Blackburn – and their Premier League rivals – regularly shunned the promotion of youth in favour of big-money signings. The 19 WHERE HAVE ALL THE IRISH GONE? birth of the Premier League in 1992 ushered in an era of stellar signings, compounded by the Bosman ruling in 1995, which removed obstacles to foreign players playing in England – a double whammy which would change the fortunes of Irish players for ever. -

It’s always proved difficult to find positive results against todays opponents, the last of which was in this fixture last season when I took temporary charge in the touch- line absences of Simon & Jason the win coming after an early goal wrestled the ini- tiative and saw us weather a second-half storm to run out 1 nil winners. Hallam’s current form looks very positive with just one defeat in their last seven games in what apparently was a feisty affair at home to a resurgent Rossington Main side. I understand Hallam ended the game with just eight players on the pitch after a sending-off and two sin-bins. Let’s hope todays clash isn’t quite so feisty. Last Saturday’s result against a “dogged” Dronfield Town was particularly disap- pointing given how we dominated play for virtually the whole of the ninety minutes, missed chances cost us badly. -
