Another decent attack from the Villagers down the right, more representative of their recent form, saw the ball eventually fall to GRIMSHAW close in on the left and he made no mistake. Hanley made a spirited response, winning a corner but Charnock increased their lead on 60 minutes. Darr, who once again put in a remarkable amount of running up front, pulled the ball back to BENNETT about 25 yards out and he hit a delightfully flighted shot over Woolrich’s head into the top corner of the goal. Bennett then had a shot blocked after good work by Davison. The 72nd minute saw Turner replace Griffith. Darr was almost in after he linked up with Grimshaw but he only won a corner. The 82nd minute saw Putman miss the easiest chance of the game, the home defence went AWOL and the Hanley striker found himself free on goal, he only had to lift the ball over the advancing Ascroft but he put it over the bar. Charnock immediately went down the other end and GRIMSHAW made no mistake from a Bennett pass. It was the burley striker’s 450th goal for the club amassed in just over 10 seasons at Mossie Park. A remarkable record! Faulkner had a powerful shot just over the bar before Darr shot wide and then the same player brought a fine flying save out of the keeper with a rasping left foot shot. There was only two minutes of added time before Charnock celebrated another fine home win. The three points moved the Villagers up into second place in the table.
