PROVINCE OF CITY OF BOISBRIAND

REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 1ST, 2014

RESOLUTION 2014-04-227 DENUNCIATION OF CANADA POST

WHEREAS Canada Post has decided to replace door-to-door mail delivery in Canadian cities with community mailboxes;

WHEREAS this decision will be implemented in Bois-des-Filion, Lorraine and Rosemère in the fall of 2014;

WHEREAS this decision was taken unilaterally by Canada Post;

WHEREAS Canada Post is a Crown Corporation whose purpose is to provide and maintain a quality public postal distribution service;

WHEREAS Canada Post’s decision represents a significant decrease in the quality of this service;

WHEREAS this decision is expected to have a negative impact on the residents of these communities, notably on seniors and those with mobility issues;

Consequently, it is:

MOVED BY MR. DANIEL KAESER AND SECONDED BY MR. DENIS HÉBERT

TO condemn Canada Post’s decision to eliminate door-to-door mail delivery;

TO ask Canada Post to suspend its decision;

TO urge Canada Post and the Canadian government to review their postal service policy with a view to guaranteeing the maintenance of a quality service that is based on a long-standing tradition of providing door-to-door mail delivery in urban areas;

TO convey a copy of this resolution to the chair of the Board of Directors of Canada Post, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post, the Group President of Canada Post Physical Delivery Network, the minister responsible for Canada Post, MP Alain Giguère, all members of the House of Commons (Parliament of Canada), the Union of Quebec municipalities, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and the Metropolitan Community.
