Introduction Dear student, Welcome to the Basque Country! Welcome to Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Enpresagintza - Faculty of Business Studies, in any of our two Campuses: Oñati and Irun. The information in this Student Guide will be of practical use and we hope it will be really useful for your stay. We hope this document helps you to enjoy your stay in Oñati or Irun. Welcome to the Basque Country and to Mondragon Unibertsitatea Mondragon Unibertsitatea is a non-profit cooperative university of social vocation and public interest open to the society and focused on the needs of businesses, institutions and organizations. The university trains people in seven areas of knowledge: Engineering Business Management Entrepreneurship Education Media Communication Gastronomic and Culinary Sciences It has four faculties and 9 sites: Faculty of Engineering, located in Arrasate-Mondragon, Goierri and Orona Ideo- innovation city in Donostialdea. Faculty of Business Studies, located in Oñati and Irun. Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences, located in Eskoriatza and Aretxabaleta Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences - Basque Culinary Center in Donostia-San Sebastián Bilbao Berrikuntza Faktoria in Bilbao 2.1 The Faculty of Business Studies The Faculty of Business Studies constitutes a mixed cooperative of social initiative. It has two university campuses. The campus of Bidasoa, located in Irun, close to the border with France, and the campus of Oñati, in the core of the Basque Country. Oñati is a town located in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country. It has a population of approximately 10,500 and lies in a valley in the center of the Basque Country. It is about 40 kilometers wick and is about 236 meters (774 feet) above sea level. Irun is a town located in the province of Gipuzkoa in the autonomous community of the Basque Country (Spain), near the border with France. It has a population of approximately 61,700. 4 Student guide 2.2. Premises The library opens from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00 at Enpresagintza (Oñati). In the faculty of Arrasate-Mondragón the library is open from 8:00 to 24:00. In the Bidasoa campus, the library opens from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00. In addition, students can use the classrooms from 8:00 to 22:00. The student card is given to the student once he/she has been enrolled. It is possible to find some computer rooms and meeting rooms in the campus. These rooms can be used also by the students. 5 Student guide 3. Practical information 3.1 Required documentation 3.1.1 Card of Residence As soon as you arrive in Spain, it is necessary to get the Card Residence, but only if you are not a member of the EU and if you are going to live in our country for more than three months. The requirements: Age: older than 12. Payment of 6€. Be enrolled in academic centers officially recognized, a minimum of 15 hours per week. It is possible to apply for it in internet (through the available form in this page) or in any of youth information office. http://www.gazteaukera.euskadi.eus/r58-2279/es/ 6 Student guide 3.2 Health service If you are a member of the EU, you have to bring the European E-111/E128 medical card from European Union. If you are not a European citizen, you need a private health insurance, which will guarantee the medical assistance. This insurance must be contracted in your country of origin. The residence is located in Arrasate-Mondragon, within the Faculty of Engineering (address: Loramendi, 4 - 20500 Arrasate-Mondragon (Gipuzkoa)). This institution is an organization that aims to serve you support for your studies. It will cover your basic needs with a great dorms and dining room, and it will also help you with your academic and non-academic formation. In addition, the residence gives you the opportunity to, in a context of healthy living, making new and solid friendships. Thus, on the basis of mutual respect, we will be the principal actor of an unforgettable stay. The residence offers the following facilities for its collegiate: meeting rooms, study rooms, computer room, clubhouse (for games, etc.), classroom to rehearse and play music, multifunctional room, sport facilities, gym, photo lab, etc. Regarding the services, there is Wi-Fi connection in the whole campus, laundry facilities for personal use, dining room, media room...etc. 7 Student guide SHARED FLATS Shared flat service for students is offered, by means of the University, by a Real State Agency, "GERTU". Contact them directly for information regarding conditions and prices, at: [email protected] (Eva) Regarding to the students of the Bidasoa campus, they will have the option to contact with other exchange students. 3.3.2 MU Sport and Leisure Activities Unit To enrich university environment and to carry out another type of activities, the Faculty of Business offers a service of culture and sport. This service offers some activities and services, such as: courses and sport trips, championship celebrations, advising and lending of sports material… (https://www.mondragon.edu/en/sports) Inter faculty Championship: Each faculty organics the winter and spring championship: 5x5 soccer, 3x3 basketball, fronton… Each faculty grants a prize. The winners get a pass to play MU Championship. During the academic year you will have the option to practice and learn the activities according to each season. Health activities: self-defense, dances… Water activities: surf, canoe… Mountain activities: climbing… Winter activities: ski… Others (go-carting, paintball…) 3.4 Useful information 3.4.1 Weather In the Basque Country the climate is oceanic and wet on the coast and continental in the inside. The temperatures are gentle during the year, with frequently rains in spring and autumn. The winters are gentle and summers are not warms. Opening a Bank account is free of charge only in certain Banks, for example LABORAL KUTXA. It takes around 20 minutes to open a bank account and you must bring your ID/Passport with you.
