Guided Reflection – Film: of Heaven

After your group has completed their activity, circle them up and ask these recommended questions. If you don’t feel these questions work for you, feel free to develop your own. We’re cheering you on!

• What parts of Balian’s story resonated with you the most?

• What similarities can you see in Balian’s quest for forgiveness of his deeds and your own life? • What parts of the movie caused you to struggle? Why? • What parts of your life are constantly being fought for? What’s your Jerusalem?

Leader Tip: The goal is not to have a long, drawn out discussion on what you just experienced. Instead, focus on helping group members connect what they are learning in Scripture with everyday life. A helpful phrase to use if a group member has trouble achieving this goal is “How does our study of ______help us interpret or provide a worldview on [insert activity you just experienced].” If group members have trouble with this entire exercise, don’t panic because the learning process takes time. Keep pressing on!

Important Points to Remember when leading adults to maturity in Christ: 1. Group members need to know why this is relevant before they will allow themselves to learn anything. 2. Group members want us to know they are in control of their own life. 3. A group member’s values their own life experience over new content. 4. Group members are not always ready to learn. 5. Learning is a cost-benefit experience. It must help them in their daily life. 6. Motivation in group members varies due to its intrinsic nature.
