FEDERAL COURT OF AUSTRALIA Roadshow Films Pty Ltd v iiNet Limited (No. 3) [2010] FCA 24 SUMMARY Citation: Roadshow Films Pty Ltd v iiNet Limited (No. 3) [2010] FCA 24 Parties: Roadshow Films Pty Ltd (ACN 100 746 870) and the parties in the attached Schedule I v iiNet Limited (ACN 068 628 937) File number: NSD 1802 of 2008 Judge: COWDROY J Date of judgment: 4 February 2010 Roadshow Films Pty Ltd v iiNet Limited (No. 3) [2010] FCA 24 SUMMARY 1 In accordance with the practice of the Federal Court in some cases of public interest, importance or complexity, the following summary has been prepared to accompany the orders made today. This summary is intended to assist in understanding the outcome of this proceeding and is not a complete statement of the conclusions reached by the Court. The only authoritative statement of the Court's reasons is that contained in the published reasons for judgment which will be available on the internet at www.fedcourt.gov.au. 2 The judgment in this proceeding is necessarily complicated both as to fact and law. It is also lengthy, running for 636 paragraphs and almost 200 pages. I have decided to provide short oral reasons for the judgment which I am presently to hand down. These reasons are not intended to be a substitute for reading the judgment itself which will be accessible online this morning. 3 This proceeding raises the question whether an internet service provider or ISP authorises the infringement of copyright of its users or subscribers when they download cinematograph films in a manner which infringes copyright. -

Master Thesis
The Faculty of Arts and Education MASTER THESIS Study programme: Literacy Studies Spring term, 2020 Open Author: Barbara Waloszek ………………………………………… (signatur author) Supervisor: Oliver Martin Traxel Title of thesis: Audiovisual Translation of Puns and Cultural References in the First Season of the TV Series ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Keywords: Audiovisual Translation, Pages: 92 Subtitling, Translation Strategies, Puns, + attachment/other: 107 Cultural References Stavanger, 11 May 2020 Abstract This master thesis investigates a topic from the field of audiovisual translation. The research is focused on the subtitling of puns and cultural references in the American TV series ‘How I Met Your Mother’. It aims to analyse the characteristics of each of these two translation problems in the source text and the translation strategies applied to render them in the target text. For these purposes, the research material is analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively to provide comprehensive data on the subject. The theoretical framework is based on the concept of relevance theory as proposed by Sperber and Wilson (2004), which constitutes a valid explanation of numerous translators’ decisions. This master thesis also includes a practical framework with information on the character of the film as an audiovisual medium. The analysed material provides a representative sample of the translation of puns and cultural references from English to Norwegian. The discussed examples show translation difficulties and factors which need to be considered while translating, such as inter-semantic redundancy and screen space limitations. In addition, the analysis of source-text puns allows for drawing conclusions on the language distance between these two languages. In relation to cultural references, the research indicates a potential distance between the American and the Norwegian culture. -

Often, female journalists are portrayed as vivacious, ruthless, and driven individuals who must compete fiercely to survive in a man’s profession. Robin Scherbatsky (played by Cobie Smulders) of How I Met Your Mother is depicted as an attractive Canadian journalist with a tomboy past on the highly popular television series. Scherbatsky struggles to break free from covering stereotypical “fluff” stories, a genre that is common to female broadcast journalists. While she maintains a rugged and unemotional facade, she is still very womanly and vulnerable in both her career and personal life. This study will examine Scherbatsky’s dichotomous character, compare her image on the series to that of other female journalists in popular culture, and analyze her influence on the current stereotype of female broadcasters. -

George F. Walker¹s Better Living Playing with Difference 2
! ABSTRACT GEORGE F. WALKER’S BETTER LIVING: PLAYING WITH DIFFERENCE; A CANADIAN FAMILY ON AN AMERICAN STAGE by Alexandra Whitney Marsh The purpose of this study is to examine Canadian identity via the development of Canada’s modern theatre, to understand its relationship to Nationalism, and to explore the influence of playwright George F. Walker. This thesis functions as a two-part study: first, as a research project that focuses on dramatic constructions of Canadian identity, specifically within the plays of George F. Walker and relating to Benedict Anderson’s concept of the “imagined community,” and second, a discussion/analysis of the process of directing George F. Walker’s play Better Living and examining the responses of cast, crew, and audience members to this example of Canadian Theatre. Using Anderson’s texts, informed observation, and notation of the production process (including: auditing, rehearsal, direction, performance, and finally a survey to examine audience response) this study examines constructions and perceptions of Canadian Nationalism as communicated through the theatrical production of Better Living. ! ! ! 美國影集的字彙涵蓋量 語料庫分析 the Vocabulary Coverage in American
國立臺灣師範大學英語學系 碩 士 論 文 Master’s Thesis Department of English National Taiwan Normal University 美國影集的字彙涵蓋量 語料庫分析 The Vocabulary Coverage in American Television Programs A Corpus-Based Study 關鍵字:字彙涵蓋量、語料庫分析、第二語言字彙學習、美國電視影集 iii ABSTRACT In EFL context, learners of English are hardly exposed to ample language input. -
