1. What is greed?

Ans: Greed is the major source of evil. Also known as avarice, covetousness or cupidity, greed is a major cause of suffering in the world. Greed refers to the urge of having more and more. It is a state in which a person loses all his self-control, they become devious, petty, unlovable and very jealous.

2. In some cases, how is greed beneficial? Ans: In some instances, greed leads to development. Greed is good because it motivates people to work hard, get higher education, gain spiritual knowledge, start a business or invest money in something useful and profitable. This makes a person more productive and a contributing member of the society. As a result, people earn more money and are able to lead a comfortable and prosperous life. Therefore, greed is beneficial in some cases. 3. Why did the farmers of Samastipur village become upset?

Ans: The farmers of Samastipur village became upset because there was no rainfall in the village for a year. All the seeds sowed by the farmers dried up.

4. Did Jamnalal help the farmers? What did he say?

Ans: No, Jamnalal did not help the farmers. He shouted at them and told them that they themselves were responsible for such situation.

5. Did Jamnalal follow ’s advice? What happened after that?

Ans: Yes, Jamnalal followed the saint’s advice. He promised him that he will never be greedy and will never lie to anybody. The zamindar did what he was advised by the saint. He called back all the villagers and with their help performed a huge yagya in the village temple. As soon as the yagya was over, it began to rain heavily. Everything in Zamindar’s house became normal and the village became a prosperous village again.
