The dyes under study include, basic dyes, acidic dyes, azo dyes, mordant dyes, and vat dyes while the fabrics are cellulosic materials, wool fabrics, nylon 6,6 fabrics, nylon 6 fabrics, silk fabrics and polyester materials. The principle of adhesion proposed leading to the fastness of the colourants is illustrated by the bonding of atoms and molecules arising from intermolecular interactions between functional groups of the dyes and the substrate materials. The functional groups involved are hydroxyl group (-OH), carboxylic group (-COOH), carbonyl group (=C=O), imino group (-NH-) ester group (- COOR), amide group (-CONH2) as well as conjugation in aromatic groups. The types of bonding proposed are ionic, covalent, dative covalent, dipole-dipole forces, and inter molecular hydrogen bonding. The study also shows that adhesion may be enhanced by physical entrapment of the colouring molecules on the substrate. Keywords - adhesion, entrapment, bonding, functional group, fabric and dye I. Norwood, Mass., U.S.A. ; 155688 PREFACE This book has been written primarily to meet a need arising from the introduction of the study of textiles into the curriculum of the high school. The aim has been, there- fore, to present the subject matter in a form sufficiently simple and interesting to be grasped readily by the high school student, without sacrificing essential facts. It has not seemed desirable to explain in detail the mechanism of the various machines used in modern textile industries, but rather to show the student that the fundamental principles of textile manufacture found in the simple machines of primitive times are unchanged in the highl}^ developed and complicated machinerj^ of to-day. Minor emphasis has been given to certain necessarily technical paragraphs by printing these in type of a smaller size than that used for the body of the text.

  • A Digital Textile Printer to Aid in the Product Development Process
FROM CONCEPT TO CREATION: A DIGITAL TEXTILE PRINTER TO AID IN THE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS Dr. Sherry Schofield Dr. Jessica Ridgway Retail, Merchandising and Product Development – College of Human Sciences PROJECT DESCRIPTION The proposed funding from the Student Technology Fee will be used to purchase a wide- format digital ink-jet fabric printer which will provide students the unique opportunity to print their own developed creative ideas using this cutting edge textile printing technology. Our goal with this project is to further integrate current industry technologies into the Retail, Merchandising, and Product Development (RMPD) course curriculum. Within the textile and apparel industry, when a new product is being developed, often the designer is forced to use the available prints that were designed by someone else. This process can limit the designer’s ability to create a truly unique product or garment and to the designer is not able to design from initial concept to final product. Today’s technology is changing this process; with the introduction of digital textile printers, designers can take part in the entire product development process starting with textile design. With the incorporation of a digital printer and the accompanying software into the RMPD textile lab, our students will have the ability to experience a similar concept to product process with the creation of his or her own sample fabric, which could ultimately result in new and unique products. Furthermore, the use of a digital textile printer affords students the ability to incorporate technology into the product development process. This not only emulates current industry practices, but also allows for further exploration in product development.

  • Traditional Clothes of the Country(Joint
Message froM PRESIDENT Dear Rotaractors, Warm Rotaract Greetings from Rotaract Club of Thane North (RID 3142- India) We are glad sharing an editorial space with you and find great pleasure introducing the Traditional attire of our country. As you know India is a diverse country and has 29 states and 7 union territories. Every state has their own diverse language and traditional attire. We even have diversity in religion maximum people following Hinduism and the rest being Islam, Christianity and Sikhism; leave aside the other tribes which have their own traditional attire. Living in such a diversified country it is difficult to write about the entire traditional clothing, but here I will just try giving you a glimpse of the same. For men, traditional clothes are the Achkan/Sherwani, Bandhgala, Lungi, Kurta, Angarkha, Jama and Dhoti or Pajama. Additionally, recently pants and shirts have been accepted as traditional Indian dress by the Government of India. In India, women's clothing varies widely and is closely associated with the local culture, religion and climate. Traditional Indian clothing for women in the north and east are saris worn with choli tops; a long skirt called a lehenga or pavada worn with choli and a dupatta scarf to create an ensemble called a gagra choli; or salwar kameez suits, while many south Indian women traditionally wear sari and children wear pattu langa. Saris made out of silk are considered the most elegant. Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is one of India's fashion capitals. In many rural parts of India, traditional clothes is worn.

Identifying Woven Textiles 1750–1950 DATS in partnership with the V&A 1 Identifying Woven Textiles 1750–1950 This information pack has been produced to accompany two one-day workshops taught by Katy Wigley (Director, School of Textiles) and Mary Schoeser (Hon. V&A Senior Research Fellow), held at the V&A Clothworkers’ Centre on 19 April and 17 May 2018. The workshops are produced in collaboration between DATS and the V&A. The purpose of the workshops is to enable participants to improve the documentation and interpretation of collections and make them accessible to the widest audience. Participants will have the chance to study objects at first hand to help increase their confidence in identifying woven textile materials and techniques. This information pack is intended as a means of sharing the knowledge communicated in the workshops with colleagues and the wider public and is also intended as a stand-alone guide for basic weave identification. • Ancient Indian Texts of Knowledge and Wisdom
Newsletter Archives www.dollsofindia.com The Saree - The Very Essence of Indian Womanhood Copyright © 2013, DollsofIndia A saree or sari is a long strip of unstitched cloth, which is draped by Indian women – it practically typifies Indian women and showcases the vast diversity of Indian culture as a whole. The word "Sari" is derived from the Sanskrit and the Prakrit (pre-Sanskrit language) root, "Sati", which means, "strip of fabric". Interestingly, the Buddhist Jain works, the Jatakas, describe women’s apparel, called the "Sattika", which could well have been similar to the present-day saree. Another fact is that the end of the saree that hangs downward from the shoulder is called the Pallav. Experts believe that the name came to be during the reign of the Pallavas, the ruling dynasty of ancient Tamilnadu. A saree typically ranges from six to nine yards in length and can be worn in several ways, depending upon the native of the wearer and her outlook on current fashion. Usually, a saree is tucked in at the waist and is then wrapped around the body with pleats in the center, the other end draped loosely over the left shoulder, showing the midriff. This apparel is also popular in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. This very feminine garment is worn over a petticoat, also referred to as a lehenga in the North, a paavaadai in the South, a parkar or ghaghra in the West and a shaya in the East. It is worn along with a bodice or blouse, called the choli (in North India) or ravikkai (in South India).
