Fondly addressed as Maa, not only by me, but by most of the sadhakas of The Yoga Institute, she is much more deserving Mof our love and respect. Her ever-smiling eyes, so pure, no pretense without any guise. Her reassuring words and firm hands urge us all to sustain against all odds. She is an inspiration who makes everyone believe that they have wings and can achieve things. She loves without reasons and that doesn't change with seasons. She accepts everything wholeheartedly even in the darkest of the hour, exhibiting supreme emotional strength and unmatched willpower. Reflecting Dr.Jayadeva’s absolute balanced state of mind, Hansaji demonstrated the same with elegance during the passing away of her life partner, Dr Saab, which was immediately followed by the birth of her grandson, Saatvik. Putting to practice all that she teaches, she stated that, “ Dr. Saab has moved on and we too have to continue ahead.” Wearing her charismatic smile, she promptly visited the newborn to bless him and stated that, “It is my duty to graciously welcome our next generation.” Only a lady who has been completely dedicated to Yoga way of life could have responded to such a challenging situation with so much love, compassion and understanding. The Yoga Institute takes the opportunity to honor Smt. Hansaji Jayadeva Yogendra on her 71st birthday. As we celebrate another year in the life of our beloved Maa and Yoga Guru, she continues to inspire millions across the globe to embark on this wonderful journey of Yoga way of living. We all know that we are just a drop in the ocean; however Maa, who is an epitome of Householder yogi, is an ocean in a drop. As we value all the birthday wishes that have been pouring in from all over the world, we have humbly attempted to acknowledge and highlight just a few of the love-filled expressions here. Happy Birthday Maa! We pray and wish that you keep showering us all with your love and wisdom. Pranee H. Yogendra Editor PEARLS OF WISDOM THE OCEAN LIFE & FAMILY How has Saatvik (your grandson) changed your life? IN A DROP Time and discipline used to rule my life earlier, now Saatvik rules it. I have become more flexible, expressive, and young again. Mujhe bhudhi nahin hone dega What will you do on a complete day off…no work at all? I would just sit and close my eyes to meditate or sing, listen to music, read and write. Though I hardly get this much time. If you can become invisible for a day what would you do? I would visit as many people as I can, who are suffering. Just sit next to them and give them love and energy. I will also spend some time sitting near a river or mountains. What is that one thing you want people to remember you about? Remember me for love, joy and care and while remembering, spread the same in the world. Which is your favourite song? I like classical music, so my all time favourite is Ja, tumse na boloon Kanhaiya. I remember singing this to my son, Patanjali when he was young, he would catch my Saree while dancing with me. I now sing for Saatvik. What is one wish that you would put on your “bucket” list? When you lead your life with a sense of duty, everything in life becomes bucket list worthy. Dr Saab always stressed doing with a sense of duty and not desire. When life is about acceptance, everything comes your way. Talking about Dr Saab, what is your fondest memory of him? (With a hearty and delightful laughter) When we finally decided to get married, I took Dr Saab's hand and kissed it lightly. He was embarrassed and bemused; I was overwhelmed and touched by his simplicity and purity. He always led such a life of simplicity. What is/are your spiritual practices? Doing my duty is one of the most important spiritual practices. It keeps me in my present. Whenever I get time, I close my eyes and sit still, I reach absorptive state readily. Being mindful and integrating simple Asanas in routine activities keeps my body and mind active. We all have heard our Pujya Maa Hansa ji speak eloquently and with compassion. One can sit and listen to her endlessly, spellbound by her divine presence. Here is yet another opportunity to scoop up her divine wisdom, albeit with a twist. To mark the occasion of her Birthday this month, we requested Hansa Ma to answer some of the questions. This time we threw a challenge of doing it in quick rapid- fire manner. Hansa Ma lapped up the challenge in her hallmark enthusiastic style. The result is nothing but marvel. I sat down spellbound as Hansa Ma spoke with child like eagerness, reflecting deeply on her experiences. An Exclusive Interview The answers punctuated with her wisdom were brief. Every moment of Smt. Hansaji felt life experiencing an entire ocean roaring in a drop. Indeed, brevity Jayadeva Yogendra is the soul of wit. Read on as Hansa Ma reflects on her life, her beloved by Neelam Vaswani students and on Yoga and The Yoga Institute.
